Well to be honest i cant speak for big gold players because i don't spend as much as them. I do know though that if i did to get a unit with a certain boost and then it doesn't work i would get very annoyed.

With all due respect to all nah sayer here... I have to agree with PJ on this one... while it is true that the auction event is favorable to gold spenders and highly unlikely will a free player ever make it to the top tier, there are no policy or requirements that for any players to participate in any events auction, 10 crate, boss etc etc... Your participation in any of these events is based on your own decision and thus your choice to proceed with the events is on your own peril...

While many had argued that the events results in excessive XP gains or use of gold (which is a different discussion) it is the unfortunate result or trade off for "wanting" the unit... you have to pay your dues in order words... You want the unit with boost then be ready to shell out a good amount of cash and buy gold to participate in the auction event (no secrets here), you want the high attack unit from boss eat that XP gain (you know that you gonna level up regardless)!

If you don't want to do either then don't participate and set up tent... you are not penalized for doing that...

Who cares u can't win on this game anyway can't even sell those units for any real cash so in 1-2 yrs u will have wasted all that money with no one left to fight except for abandoned accounts
