I do not know if this will pick up steam or not but I thought it could be fun! Share any thoughts or assumptions you had towards this game at some point that later became ridiculous as you learned the game. For example I thought this early on:

Because cars are so expensive (and before I discovered the mafia-item description pop-up that says 'one of ___ per mafia member in battle') I told myself that I needed to buy cars based on the assumption of how many mafia could fit in or on that particular vehicle. So, a motorcycle could really only be used for one mafia member, while the hatchback could seat/be used towards at least four mafia members. The SUV was just awesome because I just knew I could squeeze seven of my mafia into that particular vehicle and so I could get away with buying less of them. This belief carried on for some time until I discovered the aforementioned item breakdown pop-up tab.

I know I am not the only person who lived and learned and found myself coining myself as an idiot for an assumption like this so please share yours!

OMG, now that's funny D, my oops moment was when I realized, with help from the forum, I didn't have to wait till level 100 to do thug life goals with the 500 mafia requirement.

Mine's a good one.

For quite a while I assumed "my attack > rival defense = guaranteed win". It's only common sense.

Then we all found out that this game intentionally removes common sense from nearly every single equation, and replaces it with crap like random factors.

I don't even want to get into what I used to think about defense buildings and/or profile defense score.

To go with Dudeman, BGA's... bought 10 with gold, upgraded the heck out of them, just to discover that my actual defense moved slightly higher... fun stuff

I assumed that real money spent in game would retain it's worth and it's advantage.

I didn't expect Gree to subsequently give away huge quantities of free stuff that is more powerful than items I previously bought with real money.

Gooch has given me 18 free items today, 18 items that are better than Common crate items I spent real money on.

I won't make same mistake again. No more Gold, stats now stay where stats are now.

aka Stick ur inflation up your *** Gree.

ok when i started playing i didn't realise you couldn't build more than 2 of the same money buildings until i tried to build a 3rd one and noticed the building disappears from money building menu

Ha ha ha OP, couldn't wait for the buses and limos, huh?

I used to think each mafia member brought their best of each category to the fight. Not as funny, and it seems many believe this.

A funny one I saw was not to attack someone while they are standing next to their defensive buildings.

I had 3 assumptions.

1) that the grenade launcher, steel garrote, blast guard helmet, and audi where the best cash items you could buy... and by multiplying those by 500 would give me an average player stat... wrong lol

2) that you could build (like in other games) a "tank" character... basically investing allllll your skill points into defense and becoming nearly untouchable... wrong again lmao...

3) Gold spenders weren't crazy! lol

Limos and buses were the mecca of vehicles in my mind lol

And thats hilarious to not attack when standing next to D buildings :)

Dude and BOS...i think MANY people shared that same misconception! I originally told myself id get at least 2 of every D bldg and even got started w the BGAs but luckily only bought 8 and that was right when the top was blown off about how pointless those are or i probably would have 25+ by now w substantial time and money put into them :-/

LMAO I thought that if you spent money on a badass item (say a vehicle for example) that every mafia member gets to use it..........herp durp :D

With all the easily obtained free items better than RP items, I don't see why they don't finally just give us a fourth tier. Of course, I already squandered my savings on RPGs and Exeleros, so clearly now would be the perfect time for that.

Another 500 TL would be awesome right now too.

Yawn.

I thought that when level vs similar level everyone would be around the same stats. That became shot down around level 10 when I saw the first person with 10x my stats and 40+ event items.

I thought after I got the very first event #10 (Diamond Heater) that all events were going to be that easy with no gold.

Remember also when it first came out and we all thought it was a game changer because of the extra Respect it would give us.

I assumed that 500 mafia members were the limit, regardless of what level you were, hence I bought equipment to supply those "500" mafia members not understanding why my atk/def would stop going up after purchasing 200 units at level 40. Sheesh!

Like most, I assumed defense stats were real.

The one thing I didn't figure out was that items could be bought with respect points. I had 3000 in the bank before I knew I could buy items with them.

In my first account, warehouse was my favorite target, as well as meat factory cos I luv the feeling that 20plus xp per hit. Then.......
So I start over with my second account by robbing only three targets. Laundromat (1xp/2rp) Magic playhouse (2xp/4rp), loft(4xp/12rp). And I do not even rob beautiful NC... cash worth nothing in the game. But I would never never never rob any cheaters' lv9 casino at all if I know the result will be 110xp/30rp. it's like 4.5m per hit by the way.

I thought that leveling quickly meant that you get stronger because of more mafia. I found myself in levels 40s and 50s and I couldn't win any attacks or robs.

Also, I thought that having mafia in the higher levels meant that you had a stronger mob.

that and coming from mmo with guilds or other groups within game I thought if I invited 3-5 high level people with 500 mafia each I would have the max mafia by mafia of mafia member.

Another thing that I wasn't sure of was if person A attacks person b and they both have 500+ mafia but these 8 people in common in both mafias do those people sit on the side line and then are only aligned with the winner afterwards?

How is a thread about people's misconceptions towards the game and the knowledge they have gained over the months off-topic?
It doesnt really matter where this thread goes i guess but if this isnt 'crime city' enough to be considered on-topic then what is?

The 'General' tab says 'discuss anything related to cc mobile'...

I screwed up early on when the game told me "Our Hood is getting dirty, we need a place to throw away our garbage- Buy 10 Trash-Cans!", and instead of just clicking the "Buy" linky in the Goals Box (because I didn't like THAT type) I went to the Store/Decorations and bought ten that were more to my aesthetic vision. When this didn't work I said "Screw You!" and went and bought ten of the most expensive Trash-Cans available, the 90 gallon ones you wheel out to the curb. This didn't work either, so thoroughly pissed now, I bought ten of the cheapie old beat up ones to see if that's what they wanted. Nope. So I finally went back to the Goals Box and found out there was a fourth kind.

The Game congratulated me on a job well done and that the streets now would be a lot cleaner, which would be handy since the sidewalks were all *&^%ing full of Trash Cans and there was nowhere else to walk...

As Deluxe has now returned with his honour intact, thought I'd bounce this back up.

Earlist game assumption that has since proved to be a complete waste of time, Yamaha motorbikes. At the time I had no money-bought cars, and all farming was on the now infamous M4A1, so when Yamaha opened up it offered a sizeable stat boost for 325R.

I remember reading a post from one of the few high level players saying Yamahas were a waste of time, and that it was better to wait for Exeleros later on - wise words. Sadly at the time others were talking about NVG and Yamahas as being great use of R, and my impatience got the better of me.

For anyone else in a similar position, DO NOT put any R into any vehicle but the Exelero - by the time you get to higher levels, everything but Exelero will be completely and totally redundant, and thus R wasted.

261 x 325 = 84825 - that's a bunch of Exeleros or RPG that would even now add something to my stats.

'preciate the bump! too bad i also got a spite-bump in having this awesome thread moved here by a certain mod immediately after my ___ :( and im definitely guilty of the same! Yamahas seemed to be such a steal...turns out they were the ones doing the stealing cuz i want my RP back!!! At least rp becomes similar to in-game cash in that it doesnt have much value as you level or hit 200 and accumulate loads of it (like erik's cool 1 mill RP)

For several months I was under the impression that in-game cash had some sort of value (after all, why else would it be there?). My assumption was that I'd need a good economy, as well as whatever I could rob so that I could buy good weapons. Therefore, I'd always rob rather than fight. By the time I was about L30 or 40 my A/D was about 1 or 2k behind most other players at that level. Also, because I valued cash I'd get the sh1ts whenever my buildings got robbed.

Plus I thought that some of the gold weapons were ridiculously overpriced and that no normal person would part with that sort of money for a virtual (and otherwise practically useless) product. Different story for buildings though- they generate cash, which can then be used to buy good weapons with the free money they produce, and thus represent a much more worthwhile investment.

When Explosives were added as a new weapon category, a lot of players initially concluded that they were a waste of time and money and of no benefit at all. Others objected to their use, declaring that using Explosives represented an "artificial" boost to a players stats. This was actually fortunate for me, as my A/D was still a bit behind the curve and the new Molitov Cocktails instantly allowed me to jump my Attack by 500, making it much easier to complete the Winning Streak/TL/HH goals I'd neglected earlier on.
