Just got back from local casino, and it was a damn fine day!

Seems all the bad luck of fail crate opens changed at the right time... Bank dealt naturals 6 times in a row! Anyway, anyone else get luckier than they do in game?!

I refuse to touch cards. I have the worst luck you can imagine. I once played through an entire 6-deck chute of blackjack and got nothing but 14s, 15s, and 16s. EVERY HAND! It was amazing. The last time I played blackjack, the dealer's first five hands (can't remember the order) were blackjack, blackjack, 21 (not blackjack) 20, 19. I never went back. My wife plays and I help... She does ok.

See Phantom of the Opera. The little mexican guys flicking their hooker trading cards at you while you walk down the strip at night are HILARIOUS!

set limits on how much you can afford to gamble each day stick to those.

I know the one week I was in Vegas, I figured how much I could lose each day and only had that in my right pocket and any money won I would stick half in my left pocket. I also then adjusted the amount that I could gamble the next day with the eye towards keeping a quarter of each day's winning and seeing how much I could return home with. Ends up I returned with 400 extra from a $200 "entertainment budget" for that 4 day week/business trip and still got to see a couple shows.

The Aria is an absolutely beautiful hotel - highly recommend it. For nightlife, hit up XS at Encore (next door to the Wynn).
If you don't want to drop the coin for the Aria, consider a stay at the Palms. It's a very fun place to stay.

I stayed at the Mandarin. I wouldn't recommend it, but it was cheap for a hotel on the strip.

Very possible. Make sure you pick up your player's card immediately, lol. Don't be afraid to ask the concierge for some complimentary show tickets or dinner vouchers. If you're talking about serious dough, everything should be free except the gambling.

If you're on a budget and want to stay on the strip, you should check out Harrahs. You can get a room there for about $40/night and it's in the middle of the action. I like the downtown area (a.k.a glitter gulch), but most find it less nice than the strip. The Four Queens is the best place to gamble, for me.

Recommend you check out the crap tables, if you bet pass/don't pass and take max odds behind the line, it's the best bet you'll get in a US casino. On a 3X/4X/5X table, your disadvantage is about 0.3% and you have to be a fair card counter to get your BJ odds down that low. Plus, craps is easy to keep up with if you're drinking which is not the case for card counting. Good luck!

Where did you stay? If I may ask.

Treasure Island. Though I did visit the surrounding casinos.

From significant events I recall from being there and not sure if those casinos are still there,

Either Treasure Island or Mirage had a good Chinese restaurant.
Circus de Solei was performing at Treasure Island but their shows were sold out way before I even got there.
The Sands was where the convention I was attending was at.
Excalibur (castle shaped) had a dinner theater with people on horseback jousting and the meal was a 'medival' setting type fair where you had no or basic utensils.
Luxor (huge pyramid) also had an interesting show but it's been so long I think it was Egyptian themed.
Treasure Island has a free pirate show outside at night.
There was a free show around a simulated volcano I think it was in front of the Mirage.
There was another two or three casinos I remember that were tore down and replaced since I was there.

Of course it was 18+ years since I was there, but if I ever get the disposable income to go again I will. It's just I never had the income to go without sacrificing trips to visit family or friends.

Ironically Casino point cards are the only ones that give significant rewards.

I have a hard enough time trusting the house when gambling. Buyt trusting the house's computers they programmed and set the 'random' seed key? Now that's true folly.

I always believed roulette to be the worst! Hate when people flood every tile with $5 chips! If you gonna win, might as well win big...

On the contrary, I love that atmosphere! It's more fun when everyone wins together, even strangers.

This is actually what happened to me. The day I turned 18 we went to a greyhound track to bet the doggies. After doing good and winning about 2k, we went to the backroom to play poker. I had no clue about the strategy of how to play but I knew what hands beat what hands. It was a 0.25/0.50 LHE game with a $10 capped pot which is an extremely small game. I won $80 that night and it meant more to me than the 2k I won at the doggies. It made me play all the time after that and have been a winning player the last 15 years. Now it's my career so the beginners luck thing definitely got me hooked ha ha.

You can gain comped rooms and meals by simply asking to be rated wherever you play. Especially if you are spending some serious coin. After sitting at a high dollar table for an hour you will be offered a room. The palms is nice, but it is off strip. Stay at the cosmopolitan. It's trendy, new, and the place is jumping.

Agree 100% We love the Aria! We're staying there late Oct. We actually tried for the Venetian this trip, but the free nights for the dates we were going to be there were already booked. But happy we'll be at the Aria. For a show, the Beatles Love Cirque Du Soleil at the Mirage is cool. Santana at the Hard Rock is the best, but not sure he's playing there anymore.

Gratz!

Gambling is bad! Unless you're trying to wash some dirt off your notes. ;)
