You can have crapy stats but as long as you have an alarm clock you have the best defense there is against getting robbed! Similar depending on what country and type on employment your in.

By my understanding:

Redundancy payments are given when your job no longer exists and your employer can't give you another position.
Severance packages pay off any sick leave, contract time, time in lieu, and a bit extra to find a new job.
