I went with the oil rig.

L5 oil rig stores 1,4M cash, two of them is instant 3M.

After a while, upgrades take so long, and IPH becomes so high, that you do not know that to do with the money pouring in... you cant vault it over 10M, at this moment I cant even buy stuff with it, because there is nothing available for cash that would increase my stats in a meaningful way.

So, what remains is hoarding unprotected cash... and I would rather let the money accumulate in 12, 24, 48 hour buildings where they cannot be stolen until collection time. Nanotech upgrade will give you extra 200,000 cache, oil rig upgrade will give you extra 500,000 cache

Oil Rigs, then Nano would be my preference. But I guess if you're eventually gunna upgrade both anyways, it doesn't really matter in the long run. But an Oil rig to lvl 5 will give you roughly an extra 100k a day over a lvl 2 Nano as Ascent hinted.

Lvl 5 Rig is my most expensive upgrade to answer your 2nd question.

Oil rigs are great, the 1.4 mil/day at level 5 is a good source of income. I'm about to upgrade one to level 6, going to cost something like 53 mil.

Biggest upgrades for me are my 2 lvl5 nano's, about 145mil for each lvl5 upgrade (I also have 2 lvl5 oil rigs).

The lvl5 rig pays 437.5k more per day than a lvl4 rig.
The lvl2 nano pays 200k more twice per day than a lvl1 nano (for a total of 400k more per day if you collect on time all the time).

435.5k > 400k, therefore the math would say a lvl5 rig is more valuable

My opinion speaking, I would chose the oil rig in this scenario.

Technicall,y you'd get more money if you upgraded your nano. Oil at 4 is 950ish. Nano at lvl2 is 400. ( twice a day ) for 800 . So that's more than the 1.4 a lvl 5 oil outputs but seeing a lvl 5 oil rig is much more pleasant to look at ,lol.

i have 2 lvl 6 oil rigs. my fav. building. upgrading oil rigs to 6 and my geo thermals to lvl 5 before upgrading my nanos to lvl2 haha. I dont like the nano at all, but at this point it's the only decent ugrade under 70 million

Lvl10 nano is 2billion (lvl10 money building upgrades cost 100 times the building initial purchase price).

145mil took a while. I make about 30mil a day, so 5 days. The harder part was that I started both Nano's at lvl1 and did all the upgrades in sequence. 30mil, 55, 92, 145... All said it's about 325mil per nano for lvl 2 to 5... Or 650mil for the pair. I went like a solid month with >50-100mil money ;)

That's what I'm doing now.
