Sometimes a homie's just got to show appreciation to another homie, but there's no socially acceptable way to do so without giving the mistaken impression that homie #1 has a latent sexual attraction to homie #2. The "no homo" convention allows you to bypass any potential misconceptions by making it clear to all that you are, in fact, no homo.

Also, JFGI. It's a "boondocks" reference.
