Hello forum members.
So basically I am at level 98 with 306 allies. I have 915 High Priests so that my units are pretty much taken care of. But what good is it if the funky old man with a huge beard with a book in hand is only able to equip "improvised weapons" (2/1) and "Adept Robe" (1/5), which is all I have mostly. He'd probably be pretty peeved.
So I'm really looking to replace these with something better....a lot better. I thought about PvE but don't really have the patience to gain 500+ weapons and armor from enemies. I'd rather purchase them myself in between saving for my Gold Mine, Manor and Lender upgrades.
I was thinking of going "Satchel of Summoning" (6/12) and perhaps "Scout Leather" (7/11).
I really don't care about attack as I don't PvP much. Just want to focus on Defense whilst still building a strong Economy.
My IPH is 8550 and stats are A27514 / D45434
Any suggestions appreciated :)

You can equip your army with any weapons and armour that you like - it doesn't have to rely on what class you are so use a combination of army and hero equipment.
If you are looking to mass purchase a cheap armour for defense, I would probably go for the Conscript Plate (3/11) for 2.8k or at a push your choice of Scout Leather (7/11) for 5.9k.
In addition, to push up you HP stats, might be worth looking at leveling up the Magic Boost building - the temple.
Apart from that, good stats.

Oh I missed that 3/11. I forgot to check Hero Equipment  That could be the go then for armor.
It's probably between Spiked club (3/7) 1.5k and the Satchel (6/12) 5.4k for the weapons. Note that I'm only going for mid-tier'ish equipment as I'm not cashed up enough at this point in the game to be going for end game items.
And thanks for suggesting the temple, I didn't really consider it as I don't touch my boost buildings. Getting it to Lv.8 would gain 16%, not too bad considering the bulk of my Defense is from HP (save for about 50 indestructible event units). Lv.9 and Lv.10 are a bit pricey though.
Thanks heaps MaverickMunkey :D

No worries.
For weapons, for low costs units, I would recommend the Honed Broadsword (6/4) for 2.3k, Throwing Axe (7/7) for 3.9k or the Wand of the Woodland (9/5) for 4.6k.
Alternatively, if you have time and can be bothered, just carry on mastering the maps and you do get a variety of different wepons that aren't too bad. You dobn't have to farm any particular map or monster as they pretty much nerfed that a while back but if you just plod through you do get some good stuff.

My 2 cents... as the armor is not lost at any time, the investment is a secured investment. All depends on how fast you want to increase you def score. If you got time, it might be better to invest from the first time in the best. Otherwise you will need to invest twice. Once in the mediocre and once you got that the expensive once.
So... will you go for a 1 phase upgrade or a 2 phased or even 3 phased upgrade strategy.

Yeah ShawnBB actually mentioned this very good point to me as well. I'm not getting annihilated on a daily basis by whales (except for one heavy gold player who enjoys giving me a beat down every now and then), so I can probably afford to spend the time to slowly buy the expensive gear.
It'll be far cheaper in the long run to keep it as a one phase type of thing.
I might aim for the Mace of Destruction (9/17) for 11k Weapon and Seers Robe (8/22) for 13k armor as was suggested to me. Will obviously take longer, but will be worth the patience I think.

I second P4T's strategy to buy the best that you can so you aren't replacing units. It would take a while and will be hard to plan for PvE to fully outfit your army with decent high stat weapons and armor, so you'll have to rely on the store for the rest. Make sure you look the armor and weapons from an both an A/D perspective because the stats are so wide. Now that you've loaded up on high priests for defense and given you're not a heavy gem spender/loot winner, then eventually the only way you'll see any movement on the A/D dial to significantly affect your defense is a good armor/weapon strategy (oh, and boost buildings for your units!).

I agree with Hello Kitty... I've been buying the hawkslayer leather for defense (10/25) for 17k and Heavy Battleaxe (21/14) for 20K... So total combined should be (31/39) for 37K

I'm in this game for the long haul, so I'll consider those options. 37k to fully deck out one unit is a very expensive way to go, that's 55,500,000 amount of gold for 1500 units  (although you'd still have a decent amount gained through PvE, still pretty expensive to fill in the rest with store bought equips).
Can I ask what your iph and main money making buildings are?
Edit: Never mind, read your sig lol

Hi KT, any personal preference of weapon and armour that you would care to share?

Pop out a little bit here:) nick
As we can feel from pve that the dropped weapons are always something like 20/10 while armors are the opposite which is 10/20.
Since we are going for the extreme defense, there will be a lot more Weapons than Armor wait us to purchase, right?
The majority of weapons only have a defense around 10,but dropped armors usually got 20ish defense.
So it makes the 9/17 and 14/21 weapons(7 to 11 bonus) way more precious than the 10/25 armors(5 bonus)
That being said, the least replacing but economically achievable purchasing strategy would be like start from 9/17 weapons and 8/22 armors, then switch to 9/17 and 10/25 in the middle, switch to the 14/21 a little later.
200+ defense density is not a dream. My goal as a free player is 100000 defense.

If there is a box event with a top prize of a dragon that boosts defence by 20%-30% ... I'd hate to see what the bidding wars will be like!

I'll probably start off with those 9/17 & 8/22 options. All my money that I save up quickly gets siphoned away by my Manor, Lendor and Gold Mine upgrades at the moment lol. When those three money buildings begin to get expensive (700k+) to upgrade then I'll concentrate on pushing all funds to equips.
I'm trying to avoid PvE for a bit as I don't really want to level any higher as I fear the ally brackets will widen and the 500 players will come flooding in. I could be completely wrong about how this works though.

Since you're focusing on defense, I'd go with the 14/21 mail crushers for $18k rather than the 21/14 heavy battleaxe for $20k. All of my units are equipped with mail crushers and hawkslayer leather and my def density is over 250.

This is also how I keep my defense density high. Mail Crusher is the weapon to purchase for defense stats.
