Yup I think so. It is pretty cool and does shake up things right at the top as you mentioned.
Will go for the 20 gems of light unit then stop there. Top 250 will be out of my range for sure.

Just try for the lower 4 units, with diligence if you start from the beginning, you can get to the 3rd unit (using medium option). With LUCK, maybe the 4th unit.

Above that, I think its pretty impossible for purely free players (I would love the 10% faster upgrade). Just bear in mind ... its not real gold so who cares if you use the middle option and that IS real money when you use your credit card (save the cash to buy a nice dinner for your significant other ... you're reap far better rewards ;) )

Don't bother opening every hour. It doesn't matter how many you open you will only get around 15 if you don't use gems. The first event like this, I set a timer for every hour and opened 20 a day, only sleeping a few hours a day. I ended up with 14 and used gems the last few minutes to get 15. The last event I didn't bother with the timer and I was on vacation with my family so I didn't have my iPad on me all day for 3 days in a row. I only opened boxes in the morning and at night those 3 days. I probably opened only 8 a day through the whole event and still ended up with 13, 1 less than I had for the previous event when I was opening 20 a day. So this event I'll just open a box when I happen to log in. I'm never going to lose sleep over these events again. It clearly makes no difference how many boxes you open during the event.

I typically top out at the third unit, 7 or 15 depending on the event, whether the max is ten or twenty. I too have chosen to lose sleep to play these events and I was curious to see if it is actually possible or probable to even get to the top of gem/egg/box/whatever count, ten or twenty, and receive all the offered units.

Watching other players' unit inventory during the events most seem to be at exactly the same pace I am. Lately I have noticed that after the event the 20th gem/egg/box unit appears in players' inventory several days after the event has ended. Since I have never collected all of the gems is it normal for that last unit to be awarded after the close of the event?

Also I thought I saw somewhere someone complaining about making sure the event ends, is there a way to continue to play an event even after it has ended? Say if you stock pile holy boxes?

Yes as long as you don't close the game after the event ends you can keep opening boxes. If you lose your Internet connection or if you are playing on your phone and someone calls you are SOL.

I'm so far behind I can't see the front. The event didn't start for me until this morning with 3 days 19 hours left. I had no time to collect boxes and I have a full day planned without the ipad. With the leader at 50 gems. Isn't it ironic, buy gems to get gems. Event loaded funky with the picture off screen and only gold bags showed up over my money buildings with no buildings. I had to quit and reenter so I never saw first prize. No wonder there is a lot of people with more gems than last event. It might take 400 gems to win the top prize. This event will be the worst for me for I have no time to open up boxes. I hope I can hit 5 but 10 might be out of reach for me with only 3 days to play.

Playing ot is not against he rules, you can keep opening boxes as long as you don't log out. You can't move up the leader board as it is closed out but you can get more vials,gems(whatever they are called) to try and get he next unit on the list

Yeah, I struck out and came one dragon egg shy of getting the third unit last time, and so I'm taking it easy. I decided that since this event came so closely in the heels of the last one, I'm only going to use the free option to try and open these boxes, and discovered that when the tells me I have a box ready it's a good time to grab the gold from my hourly gold buildings. I have three vials, or gems, or whatever they are this time around.

.... It's a fallacy. Enahs1 having 1 box in hand probably has no relation to him opening the box 90% of the time.

He might just be super lucky or a variety of other causes such as using the medium option over the free option etc.

It's possible for 1st place since it's the first Heroic unit and opens up to the eventuality of more Heroic units to come.
Of course, wecan only watch as things develop. :D

If the player is purchasing a vault that's 1500 gems/vault = 45400/1500 = ~30 vaults

At $100/vault = ~$3025 USD for 227 light gems

I myself Have over 140 boxes, pretty much I get a box for every monster I kill (or 8 out of 10), plus PVP every hours will dropd 3-4 each 20 hits, so I have acquire 140 since the event started plus the 18 I have been able to open (for the past 24 hours I am pretty much not doing anything, I do not want any more boxes)

Have to admit luck played a huge role in getting me there this time.

The first 19 gems of light were medium gold options. Then I used two gem attempts for the 20th gem.
Just like the previous event, I got 15 honor again on the first attempt, then the gem on the 2nd attempt.

Hoping I can get more than 20 this time round.

Look to the future. If you are in the top 25/50 every time then every additional stat from top units will add up to make you an even stronger opponent. 20% fewer casualties, extra honor points, +100 attack, upgrade 2 buildings, 10% faster upgrade, another 20% fewer casualties, fewer allies in battle, super strong indestructible units, etc....(i'm missing some) New events every other week will add even more to the list.

My only hope is that by the time I'll reach level 75 and above, all the whales will have starved and died off from no plankton to eat anymore.
