According to KA, CC might have a similar bidding event once again after this.
Event name --- " Who Has The Deepest Pocket?"

Only top 25 and 250 can get the bonus prize this time.

This event better have a better chance at getting an event item. I'm at 7 with at least 5 times as many opens that I have CPU Chips. In the previous events that wouldn't happen to me until I was a 8 but on this one it's been like this the whole time. Easily the worst event there is. I want to use Tapjoy gold on events but I won't be using it on events like this.

Looks like that one is top 25/250. Tightening up the winner pool. My guess is that's an attempt to drive the big spenders insane and totally say "f u" to free players.

What an awesome free game. I remember when free games existed because there were people who loved making fun games as a hobby. Those games were lots of fun too, but we're not allowed to mention any specific non-conzio games, so I guess I won't.

Lmao! Let me guess the next one...top 50 and top 150? Get out your wallets again top 50. You know you want every bonus item. For the right sum, you can have them all.

Only a matter of time before they flat out say it: whoever spends the most will win a special item that provides all previous bonuses, stacked on top of the bonuses you already bought, plus(!!!) and additional +500 attack skill, +500 defense skill, +20% mafia attack, and the item itself is 50k/50k.

There would be, um, how many players forking over the average yearly Canadian salary for that item? Enough, I can tell that much. The world is increasingly populated by idiots, and peope who take advantage of idiots. It really sucks to be one of the people who is neither an idiot nor one to take advantage of idiots.

Excellent.

Crime City is quite the cash cow for GREE(D).

All three of their games appear to be big cash cows.

Their problem will be once mad cow disease erupts their entire herd of livestock will be affected. How can cash farmers survive when they have to euthanize their products?

Sometimes I wonder if conzio/greed's plan is to ruin the game with fast cash grabs. Really what do they gain by maintaining the game for a long time?

Pros for killing off games:
- Folks are attracted to new things
- maintaining code bases over time becomes harder as you have to constantly improve it and you naturally loose/replace developers
- developers love working on new things, not bugfix trudgery (so you have them go build the next game and more or less scuttle the existing one)
- once you get a good user based hooked milk them out of everything as soon as possible - folks will get grumpy about anything if you give them time so F' em and take their cash.
- You've probably made mistakes with the existing infrastructure / protocols / etc. Why try to find a backwards-compatible path forward when you can just move to the next cash cow?
- if you let people play a game forever eventually they'll all be at the top and you'll never be able to get new players. Might as well speed up the process by exchanging their dollars for their time.

Great. This means I won't need to buy amy gold from now on. I wonder whether this will affect the sales because this type of format discourages the free and the small gold spender no to buy gold. Although the big spenders spend more, funzio can't attract new gold customers for this type of event. They can't hold this format for a long run.

I don't think they will tighten the winner pool. It doesn't make sense for them to do this. In fact, I think they need to expand it. In my opinion, it would be better for their business. I agree with Swearengen that I won't be making the same mistake twice. The item (if I do end up getting it) will have cost me too much as it is. But if I stop, I get nothing. This is a no-win situation for me and Funzio. (I won't spend money like this again). Even if I win the item, I will not be happy about what I spent to get it. So, even as a winner, I won't be happy. That's an awful dynamic for Funzio to create. Believe it or not, it is relatively easy for Funzio to create an environment where people are happy about what they spend on this game. That really is the insane part about all of this! Imagine, people could be happy to spend money for virtual rewards!

Still, I think the event can be fun but I think they need to open it up to more players. I thought the old events were brilliant in that free players (if they worked hard enough at every hour opening) had a chance of winning. Free players, light gold players and heavy gold players should all get what they want from an event. Make them all happy about what they spend, even if it is sweat equity; then the event will be successful for all, including Funzio. Bidding wars will not be the way to win over players. The gold spenders will be resentful (eventually) that the company has created an environment that escalates price based on competitiveness. It won't be long before a larger amount of gold spending players realize how silly it is to put money into a virtual reward. Leaving the format as it is will be a fast way to lose the group of players that spend money and justify it as an entertainment expense. That is a big revenue-creating segment to alienate and I don't believe Funzio will make this mistake for long.

On a slightly more positive note, I think I saw in KA a grand prize offering more than one upgrade at a time, so the technology is there.

But, like most here, I am done with the cash grabs. I look at the top 50 in events and they are all the usual suspects with huge gold stats already. There is really no point in trying to outspend em.

Agreed. Top 50 should be more like top 100. 50 is too tight more money from same people, but whoever got burned by not getting to 50 and spending over $500 (my estimate) by trying won't spend a dime next time.

It does seem stunningly short sighted to create events that will scare most casual spenders away. Especially now when there are so many great games about to be released like GW2, Torchlight 2 and the recently released TSW. I'd much rather take my casual spending to the cash shops of those games rather than participate in a CC wallet event.

"A fool and his money are soon parted"

I admit to spending some money on this game but nothing more then $100. I also feel like an idiot for spending that because I know the game will eventually end or I will get bored of it. Considering this, I think aforementioned idiom relates much more to the individuals who keep spending money and alot of it. This game will eventually lose its entertaining value. I see all people getting bored, discouraged, or finding something much more entertaining eventually. That means that these huge gold spenders investment will be shortlived or lose there value. I find it sad that people are so willing to invest so much in a little game. People need to be more realistic with the fact that this is a game. I dont even consider it a good game anymore because its no longer about skill (economy investing, looting, strategy) but about luck and bypassing skill with real money. Its clear though that the people who are wasting alot of money have a serious underlying issue. They are addicts and leave it to capitalism to take proper advantage of them. Kudos to all who are not addicts and have a strong will and the mindset to understanding what this game is really about.

What I've never been able to figure out is why so many people seem so BITTER about gold spenders. Yes, they will probably win most of the event prizes. Guess what? They got all the hellfire missiles too. At least you get to play the events, and even if you won't win, you have a shot at earning several gold-level items for free. You don't lose anything, and the events add another element besides farming items and respect points

KA has the lowest player count of their 3 platforms. I think they're testing the lower 'top 25' to compare spend rate on that against the spend rate of 'top 50'. It's still possible that they will earn more using a top 25 event as the top spenders will spend even more to remain in the competition, even with the average spenders dropping out.

Having said that I still think the likely outcome is they will not earn as much as they would/have from 'top 50' events and will revert to doing those in future.

Fairly standard business logic and market research i guess!

Actually I don't want to blame heavy bidding spenders at all, they are already game addictive patients that might need some help in real life to walk them out. When the addiction turned on and money means crap to them, there's no way to stop spending, this could easily go beyond personal will.

It is the Gree, they took advantage of those people's weakness and squeeze hard. Just like those Bully in school, which is very bad and disgusting. Ethically, that could be thought as a crime. A company keep running a business in this way doesn's deserve the pursue and trust from our players.

If the next event will be released just like KA, then I will spend no time getting the hell out of this ugly game(although no one would give a ****, I have my own principle and it is a success for me to turn it off)
