You're right, it doesn't make a lot of sense that the cash prize is a net loss from the cash open. I'll discuss it with the design team on Monday.

I got nine yesterday with all medium options and was still in top 500 but afterwards all opens showed crappy items, 300 RP, or ingame cash. So I'm falling out of top 500 now and I know I'll never be able to catch up without switching to gold. But I'm really tired of the events and will quit.
Like in other events, I tried 15-20 per day and opened around 25 safes so far, with 13 safes in hand.

I've been VERY lucky this event thus far (although I have recently hit a dry spell) --- I started the event 8 hours "late"... and it took a LONG time to find my first safe --- I have 40-something stamina and ~1300 energy and went thru both of them nearly 3 times before my first safe drop.
My first two open attempts failed --- third time lucky ---- anywayyyyyy long story short -- I have 13 chips and 7 safes on hand atm
I play a LOT --- so I think my chances of top 500 are pretty good --- and thats with no gold --- cause I wasted all my gold trying to get the tenth item on the last event <blush>

currently seven chips and over 15 successful openings over 40 sorry messages... not sure how many i have collected because i try to collect and open once one drops from pvp or from a job. No chips today - lots of failures with some $10k rewards ( at least four times today ) it cost me $12100 to have a "fair chance". no gold spent on this event

gold is looking pretty tempting right now - but the 50 i have been saving spent it on a crate and got a rare item - so that was a bonus *

Yeah, I have an absurd amount of fail to open. I haven't been keeping track, but "better luck next time" is my most common result. Easily 30+ at this point. I maxed a full 24 attempts today and got at least 16 fails, maybe more. Add that to all the fails I already had and 30 might even be a low estimate.

I was doing really well but then I went to student flats for pre drinks then out to a night club on Saturday night, ironically leaving my level 2 night club to be robbed. So I lost about 6 hours travelling there and back, pre-drinking and clubbing. I had 2 more than needed for the top 500 at the time. Then I started struggling and went mad, had to stay up all night and repair my position, now I have 12 chips with 10 needed for the top 500.

I'd expect the chip drop rate to be about twice as good as "normal" events (being that the top prize is at 20), but it actually seems worse.

This is too true at lower levels. It did not used to be the case, but they changed the drop algorithm to take job XP into account. I just wish that in addition to XP they also considered the players level.

As it stands today, a lower level player who wanted to be in the top 50 probably couldn't achieve it, regardless of how much gold they were willing to spend. (Please take note of this one CC Mark)

Not terrible for having spent no gold. It would be neat to have an event like this that is geared towards free players, like maybe one that does not even give the option to spend gold. There are lots of existing ways for gold buyers to spend gold, I don't think it would be a bad idea to at least consider an event without a gold option.

I agree but I think it will be tough for all the free playes to get into the high 20's by the end. The bottom of the top 500 is 12 right now and we're about half way through the event.

I just got #11 using the middle cash option only. According to the standings, I'm 2 below rank 500. Interestingly, every time I manage to collect 1 more chip, the person at 500 seems to outpace me by 1 or 2. You know, they should have increased the odds of getting chips from the usual dreadful odds of the 10 item events. I think many casual players such as myself have resigned ourselves to the fact that we won't be able to compete for the top 50/500 prizes unless gold is spent. A nice consolation prize would be the 5, 10, 15 and 20 chip rewards. It wouldn't change anything for the money players going for the 50/500 as they've already far surpassed the 20.

Don't give up! 2 days still left. I only had 3 after day 1, then 11 day 2, then 20 day 3, now 22 day 4.

Look at how the luck can change with the cash option by the day:

Day 1: 3 chips
Day 2: 8 chips
Day 3: 9 chips
Day 4: 2 chips

Keep in mind I make ~20 attempts a day. Today was tough. I look forward to a better tomorrow and will hope for the top 500.
