How does VIP work?

Just post your ID to the Allies thread - you'll have hundreds and hundreds before you know it.

You pay 10 gems and your name is added to the VIP list for 2 hours. During that time anyone who access's the Invite VIP section will see your name.

You could end up with 2 or 200 requests, it depends on the traffic during those two hours.

Most people who have used it believe evening time U.S. is best. After people start getting home from work and can sit down and relax with their favorite game.

I've used it twice in a pinch (once in KA & once in MW) at different times of the day and got 59 total one time and 83 total another time.

Keep in mind that only 50 requests will show in KA but more can be queued and waiting.

I disagree. VIP is pretty effective use of gems if you have them. It's the cheapest buy, and it can earn you many benefits (gold, xp and allies). I find it odd that 1 ally is 17 gems, while VIP is 10, and gets you 50 (or so). I've done it a few times and and have spent only 5$ per account. That's the price of a frappachino that's gone in 15 mins, and I walked away with nearly 300 allies from it.
