So it really does come down to luck? I got the first 7 gems pretty dang easily in about one day, but #8 was a day to get unto itself, and now 3 days later I still haven't gotten #9. Does it matter which PvE or PvP level you get the Rune Boxes from?

its all about luck, the odds are really slim on the last gems. u can open 50 boxes with gems spend and still wont see 9 or 10. if u get the grand prize feel lucky, whichever method to open you use

but to answer ur question i seen at least one forum member who had the prize pretty early, he spend some gems to get it real quick

Yes, it's pure luck. The drop rate for event prizes gets harder the more event items you have, but it drops at the same rate for everyone. We're not messing with anyone or tweaking anything hidden.

If I'm reading this right, I would be bad off having 20 boxes still to open, rather than getting a box, opening, then another, and opening, etc.

I have played approx 15 events on all three games and have won multiple times with cash only and with low and hi numbers of boxes.

CC Mark probably meant rune gems instead of boxes... The more gems you have, the harder it is to get the next.

It's just superstition on my part but when I get an unlucky cash streak I switch to free option once or twice to shake off the juju.

I got the hydra tonight and it didnt come easy. I paid the gold to open the rune boxes and I found that I would get a box opened every second attempt. It started to slow down around gem 8 and by the time I was on gem 10 I had to try 15 attempts before I received the hydra. Didn' t pay a cent but it wasn't easy

This is really getting old seeing all these people get the hydra without paying any money, and with so few attempts. I have now opened 4 with gems. 2 right after I got 8 and 2 last night when I woke up in the middle of the night. I didn't get up every hour all night like I did the previous two nights. I just couldn't do it. I think I'm in the neighborhood of 70-80 attempts. I've lost count.

I want to offer some hope to those still trying for the hydra. I got the first 8 gems quickly and was stuck at 8 for about 3.5 days. I got the 9th gem yesterday and just got the 10th this morning. I got extremely lucky I think, but keep trying! I only ever used the middle "cash" option to open them. No clue how many total attempts I did, but probably around 15-18 each day. Still have about 50 rune boxes unopened and I'm hoping loot drops increase after this event is over with . . .

I believe!!! I've played every event for all 3 games and only have ever won the diamond sig from the very first event!!! I have great stats for not spending too much on gems ($10) and would love to get that first tenth item I love the 20% casualty drop!! Oh funzio gods be with me!!! Yeah, I've been stuck on 8 gems for three days - opening with the middle gold option every time. I've pretty much resigned myself to not getting the last two... Funzio have obviously set the opening algorithm up to strongly encourage people paying with gems to open, and paying with gems to accelerate the countdown. Fair enough, that's their business model.

On the bright side, I've received 150 Honour about six times from opened rune boxes so that's a couple of free werewolves right there :)

I believe that the odds of the 10th is less than 1%, so you need to spend around 2000+ gems if you wanna really increase the odds closer to 99%, which some people have. But there's always >0% chance that you get air even with 2000 gems.

As you can see from CCM statement, the drops are the same for EVERYONE (gem and non gem opens). So what you can only control is increase your unconditional odds with more opens with gems, but with every independent conditional draw you get the same odds as everyone else.

I think that's a conservative estimate considering the 20% reduction of losses, should that capability truly exist. CS said his losses haven't changed. I'm happy for us all nevertheless.

You're not alone. My first MW event I blew $20 trying to get the 10th item. Never got it and never spent on gold/gems again. If I knew the odds, I might consider spending real money again, but not until then.

Yes I won the hydra, but it is a firestorm hydra. Just to let you know the prizes are not the same for everyone, it depends what level bracket you are in, the lower the bracket, the lower the prize value in regards to a/d.
