Rare Quest: Dragon Apparition in the Dragon's Roost

A strange thing happened while I was doing the quest From the Ground in the Dragon's Roost.

The quest stated: Defeat a Dragon Apparition in the Dragon's Roost.

After defeating close to 30 creatures, the map finally spawns the Dragon Apparition.

Then to attack it, I needed to purchase the the 6th Scorching Bow @ 7,400 gold. After I make my purchase, I attacked the Dragon Apparition. Upon a single attack, the gold is refunded back into my total and to make another attack, I have to buy another Scorching Bow.

Has something like this happened before?

Yes that is normal. The Dragon Apparition takes a long time to show. I am well into level 2 mastery just via that quest.

In addition, I never did purchase the Scorching Bow required to kill the Dragon Apparition as the gold kept getting refunded back to my total after each attack.
