Facebook is the greatest idea ever. Somebody has made an idea where people voluntarily give their data away for all to see and profit off of.

They make money from nothing.

It's not dumb luck either. Their sophisticated algorithms are time consuming. It is understandable that the ping times are so massive because most of the send and receive information is extra padding for packets and data is encrypted because you're basically sending money over the internet. Not to mention there's probably some nice checksum that needs to be calculated and sent separately. Has anybody ever seen the html of the facebook page? Just look at that and the alphabet soup that exists and that in itself explains why it's so laggy.
