I always use the middle one - it as a higher chance tham free.

Just got my 5th gem and the Undead Warlock. I leveled up like crazy to level 51 so I would get the upgraded unit before getting the 5th gem - leveled up 3 levels for the event so far!

That would be great, cause in MW once you get to 7 takes a day or so for 8 and then takes forever for the others

I am guessing it depends on your lvl. i am at 21 and hitting every map i can regardless.

Lol trust 9 and 10 are gonna make you want to kill yourself. The first 7 are relatively easy to get. And like the person above me I have noticed that the opening price is kind of steep so I'm going to try the free option to get to 7. So far I'm like 0 for like 8 in opens LOL

I went through the Temple of Abaad (since I can easily 1-hit these guys).... about every 2nd or 3rd kill resulted in a box. I haven't tried any of the low levels, since there isn't a point in killing anything that low for my experience.

If it is the same as MW then the tougher the monster (more energy to kill) the better the rune box drop rate should be on a per kill basis. The key is to find the optimal monster for your level and stats to kill that drops rune boxes at a good rate. Monsters with low hp at the lower level maps will drop rune boxes but at a more reduced rate.

In my experience I always hit the higher end monsters for a few reasons. The gold payout is good so you can at least bank that. Rune/box/crate etc drops are more likely and it tends to minimize level gain and gives you a chance at some worthwhile loot. Generally using this strategy I usually have more than enough boxes to open, decent amount of gold to pay for opening with middle option and minimize levelling at this time. I personally limit how many boxes I have on hand near the end of the event since the boxes disappear usually after the event ends. Just my two cents...

Ive still got 14 of them unopened - probably opened like 9 of them today. Putting the total in the early 20s. Certainly has been much easier than I anticipated to find them. Converting them to GEMs is another think however.

I HATE these events. This is what ruined MW for me, I busted my ass for one of these events in MW. I was checking it religiously and setting alarms every hour throughout the night to attempt another open and got stuck at 9. Do not expect to get 10 without spending money, if it's anything like MW very very few people will. Also don't panic on the last day and spend a lot of money trying to get that last gem, a lot of people spent $100+ trying to get the 10th just for it to go to waste. The last 2 are much harder to acquire then the first 8, both below a 5% chance of getting the last one probably less than a 2% chance.

They are gonna start doing these stupid events every other week, I'll bet my account the next prize is a 20% reduction in upgrade time

Conditionally, No. Unconditionally you have more chance of gems becos you have more opens.

So far I got 19 boxes and managed to open 5 so far. I'm not even trying to get these boxes. I'm just doing my daily quest finishing/weakling attacking for experience grinding and I've managed to get most out of monsters (all my boxes have been by shipwreck cove, like 6 were from battles) and a couple from PvP battles.

As far as opening them, I managed to get my one on my first try, the rest have been like a 2 - 1 ratio.

seems like another strategy is to only use gems the final day (if you are a money spender) to avoid having to open ones that you might have been able to open for free or with coin.

Yes there are lvl brackets with diff unit stats, I don't know them but for example; 10-20, 20-30, 30-40, and 50+

They should have brackets as well, since upper levels are paying quite a bit more in cash to open them, since it appears to be 25/level.

That is an unbelievably high gem to rune box conversion rate to start the event. However based on past Funzio events you could be sitting at 8 for a long while. I hope that is not the case. Good luck!

Actually for the Elite Heavy eveny I did use some gold for refills to find camo packs and to mix cash opens with GB, my flag is German and with the Heavy being a ground unit get the 10% country bonus :)

I've opened dozens of boxes, but it appears that it maxes out at 7 jewels when using the ancient spell (middle option). I have received several magic units and even gold after opening the boxes, but to get more than 7 jewels you have to use gems to open the boxes. Jewels are the only thing that allows you to get the Devil Warrior (9) or Inferno Hydra (10).

This whole rune event is a SCAM to get us to buy gems using "real" money. I am very disappointed!!!!

That is an unbelievably high gem to rune box conversion rate to start the event. However based on past Funzio events you could be sitting at 8 for a long while. I hope that is not the case. Good luck!

was diligently doing 14 -15 openings/day since inception using ancient spell - around 2k/pop. About 22% success rate in openings - mostly junk, such as an earth mage, extra ally, etc. Hit somewhat more decent stuff, such as 300hpoints and bronze dragon a couple of times, as well as 7 rubies so far...have got some 110 more boxes to go - will continue trying using ancient spell - a drain on kingdom's economy, but if i score even 2 more rubies - then the whole thing almost worth it...of course 3 more and inferno hydra would really make a difference :)
main concern so far - quality of loot went seriously down, at least based on my personal stats, and the number of regular loot drops went down too, boxes excluding...

That is not necesarily true, I was paying $1925 per try, and now I pay $2,000 per try (for the past 10 tries)
I have tried 97 times since the event started which means I have "invested" about $185,000 in total
out of which I have been lucky like you said to have received
Gems x 10 (and all 5 units)
$4,000 x 6 = $24,000
$20,000 x 4 = $80,000
300 H x 4 = 1,200 Honor points
Bronze dragon x 2
a few Earth mages, Corpse construct, Yeti and grunts
and about 60 "sorry" (out of 97 tries is alot = 61% of the time I get "sorry))

In the end, if it is worth it or not will depend on what you get during the succesfull opens and how many opens you actually get, I got 7 "sorry" in a row and then got gem #10, I just do not think that I will get it, but think that this is just play money and I can alwasy get it back in time from the money buildings, besides it is fun trying to open the Darn boxes and trying to guess what I'll get, even though 7 "sorry" in a row in not funny, lol

you can even keep trying to open in OT, after the event has officially ended, as long as you do not exit the game

I have frikken 35 rune boxes and stuck on 8 runes. I've consistently used the gold option to open my boxes because I refuse to buy gems In any case, I've been as persistent as I could and now I have too many rune boxes and probably not enough time to open them all. Guess it isn't all bad. First try I got a rune, second try I got 20K gold. Hit 20K gold twice and 4K gold maybe like 5 times. Pretty sure I broke even with how much I've spent on opening the boxes. I am happy to hear that other people are having the same problem as I am. Nice to know I am not alone. At the beginning I was getting runes pretty easily and thought I had plenty of time to get all 10 necessary runes. How wrong I was as soon as I got my 7th rune. Getting the 8th rune took an entire day and I am sure getting the 9th and 10th will be exponentially harder. Guess I can't complain, it is a free game afterall.

I have tons of runes. What I did is went to the map level below the one you are currently working on and just farmed the smallest cost creatures. You can also get them from invading or attacking other players but they have to have extra unopened ones in their inventory from what I understand. I get them occasionally that way but I have gotten the majority just killing low level creatures.

Oh, and at the beginning I thought I wanted more allies, but it has been tough because I have not been able to purchase enough units to keep up with the amount of allies I have. And I am also behind on getting weapons and armor for my units! It used to be a nice surprise when I get a new allie because I had more than enough units and when I get a new allie I would get a nice boost in attack and defence. Now...I'm mad weak compared to others with the same amount of allies!

Congratulations with your 10 gems - way to go! Am just a it curious about 97 tries you mentioned - we have started on May 31st - how much sleep were you getting these days :) ? As to play money - my attempts costs as much as yours do - unpleasant, but manageable, although outcome is somewhat different - some 78% "Sorry" , out of the rest - a couple of 300HP, 2 bronze dragons, 3X4k gold, 7 rubies and some low value junk, such as earth mages, etc. I would continue to try as I literally have hundreds of boxes to open, but overall cumulative play money opportunity cost, as P4TR1C14N said is quite considerable especially if the lower quality loot is taken consideration...Oh well - if I get that Inferno Hydra, or even a Devil Warrior - all is forgiven...

whether it is a money game or not, just doesn't feel fair that events are pushing towards buying gems rather than connecting with their player base. unless you're spending gems - you can't buy indestructible units. so, you're probably not best saving the gold.

I have right now, 56 boxes to open. That's just not gonna happen. I'm sitting on 8 gems and the last 4 boxes that were opened we're either 300 honor or a yeti. I hate the yeti!!! That's the worst thing I could get. Oh well. I open most with gold. When I have 2 that won't open with gold I go to free. Then so forth and so on.

I attack and raid as much as my stamina allows so its not a big deal for me. I'm not just doing it for the event. I like to do it all the time. I just wish I could figure out the formula they are using for losing units. Lol. I'm sure everyone does. I can honestly say as of now I have gotten about 1k honor. 3 super units and about 50k gold. And about 9 yeti!! I've enjoyed this event. I think it's been fun.

Actually, I think the ally is the worst, as I have to then go un-ally someone. The yeti just sits in your army and never does anything.

Same here and I'm loosing a lot of sleep getting up every hour all night to open boxes. If my post start to not make any sense you'll know why. If I end this event with 8 after all of the hours and lost sleep I've put into this, I'm going to be PISSED.

Just hit the jackpot on one of my accounts! I was camping at Level 8 for the longest time, but have zoomed up to Level 20 now. Will probably camp for a bit again to get by Beast Warren up to Level 10 (have a Seige Workshop at Level 10 already and built a ton of the Flaming Catapults).

I don't know. Using the middle option (ancient spell) to unlock rune boxes is supposed to have a "fair" chance of working. But it's not very fair at all. A one in 10 chance (seems like) is anything but fair and obviously geared for people to pay real money for gems (100% chance) instead to get anything decent from the effort.

I got all 10 gems using ONLY cash option, it actually gives you a better change (do not be discourage if you get 4-7 "sorry" in a row), I have gotten up to 12 in a row in MW, and 7 during this event during the first 48 hours which are suppose to be easy to open, yet I was luck to get the Hydra

So many people already got all 10 gems and many others are stuck at 7 or 8 gems, but I haven't heard of anyone being stuck at 9 or at least there are very few of them. It's just frustration lol, MW forums got like this during the first few events also. I do not believe in any conspiracies but I do think that the chance of acquiring the last 2 are way too low. When people are setting alarms every hour through the night they deserve a stupid unit and casualty rate reduction, lol
