Hi all. I've got a question the answer for which I cannot find in these forums. If it's discussed in here somewhere, please forgive me, point me in the right direction, and ignore this post.

I'm at level 148. Att: 23464 Def: 32605. Not great numbers, but I've got a family with small kids and I work long hours, so I only spend a little time on CC at night.

I've noticed since I reached level 90 or so that often I am attacked by rivals at much higher levels than myself. They are anywhere from 15, 20, 30, and even 50 levels higher than me and often with double the stats I have. But somehow I show up on their rivals list.

Conversely I never, NEVER see a rival more than 5 to 7 levels higher or lower than me with similar stats to mine, regardless of how many times I refresh the rivals list, or how many levels I climb.

I don't mind stronger people attacking and robbing me, but why is it that I (and others it appears based on comments I've seen on other people's walls) don't benefit from the same stat padding trick of being able to attack people so far below me? I've been told repeatedly that, "once you reach level X, things will open up and you'll see more rivals." Has yet to happen and I'm beginning to think I missed out on a secret handshake or something.

Either HL players can see many lower levels once they hit level X or.... or somebody hates you. Very very much.

Here is a real example of what I think is happening:

I am level 73. On my rivals list I see only rivals that are level 72 or 73. I think this concept is magnified in the HL's, where the mafia brackets are much larger. So instead of being able to see your level and one level down...

You can see 50 levels down and 25 levels up? Those numbers are just made up, but do you get the point? I can see the level 72 players but they cannot see me. They can only see rivals level 72 or 71.

Get it?

So, when I was at level 100 being attacked by rivals at level 130 I should have known that when I reached level 130 I would reap similar rewards, right? Or maybe I just needed to hold out until I hit level 135? 140? 145? It has not happened for me and some others I see asking about it. I've been looking at rivals 5-7 lvls up/down for nearly 60 levels now and all the while getting slammed by rivals at 170, 180, even 200. Lucky them I guess.

I'm lvl 136 and still only see 136's or 135's...rarely see a 137 on my list to be able to attack. Weird that you get hit from players so much higher than you.

I have wondered and asked the same question since I was at level 80 getting hit by those above 120.
I wouldn't be surprised if Funzio's official answer was, "because biatch"

The shark pool "cutoff" has been moving up as time passes. Or maybe you were the victim of the glitchy rivals list.

Haha. That would not surprise me. Competitiveness is not an option in this game, but it is my option to play (and pay sometimes). I get that, so it's not a big deal. I suppose I just wondered if Funzio would actually address true competitiveness, ever. Probably not as long as they're making money. Good for them.

It seems that the brackets open up wide starting at lvl 142.

The level has changed recently. I think it sits at 148 now.

At level 155 I can still only see +-10 on my rivals list. Any idea when it opens farther?

Hilarious. I'm pretty sure it will open up at the next level I reach.

It sounds like you have been leveling at around the same pace that the cutoff for high level players to see. So when you hit 100 the 130's could see you, but by the time you got to 130 the cutoff had moved up, so you don't get the same benefit.

You can either level up faster to open up the rivals list to those way below you, or stop leveling and wait for the cutoff to move above you, and then HL won't be able to see you anymore.
