I see that it increases unit defense from the description. My question is how much does it improve unit defense? Currently, I'm sitting at lvl 70 with 9.8k defense with 125 allies. How beneficial would this be and how much of an increase would it be with additional upgrades?

It increases it 2% every level, level 10 being 20%.

I'm at level 65. Had about 9k attack/ 10k defense. Had a player with 23k/24k hit me and lose right after I built mine. I was shocked. Buy it!!

Level 10 is very achievable, and once there you get 20% bonus to defense, on top of building and nation boost. Upgrades are cheap too.

At 10,000 defense, that's 2,000 bonus with only the composites. How many units will it take ya to get this high? Big time worth it, especially the bigger your stats.

Composites is the best 250 gold spent in the game. Mine right now gives me over 11000 defence i think.
