Ghost put together a good guide that references that.

Ghost's guide is awesome! And can probably answer most of the threads, but to answer your question...

Hero equipment can only be used by your character & is class specific. Army equipment, weapons & armor, are used by your units... 3 units per ally; 1 weapon & 1 armor per unit.

This really helped me: On your profile screen, next to your attack & defense stats, there is a little, blue, square icon... Tap on that & another screen pops up that shows you how many units you need for your allies & how many weapons & armor you need to fully equip your units.

Fully equip as many as you can as soon as you can. Then upgrade your equipment as you can afford better, higher stat, items or kill monsters for better equipment. But at least, get them all equipped.

I would word this a bit differently.

Hank, "Hero Equipment" is the subset of all equipment that your Hero can use. So if you're shopping for the one piece of armor and weapon for your hero, look here.

Your army (i.e. all of your Units) can shop from either the "Hero Equipment" *or* the "Army Equipment" store. I actually think this is an unfortunate UI choice, because when I'm looking for, say, "the cheapest defense-point armor" to buy a lot of, I need to look in both tabs.

Because I am a Warrior, I will find the Quilted Armor (0/3 armor for $12, so a nice choice for quickly adding defense points to all your units) in the "Hero Equipment" store. Before I realized that, I was looking only in "Army Equipment," and was wasting money on the Acolyte Robe (1/3 for $32).

So... if you are shopping for equipment (and please see other threads for discussions as to whether it's better to pay the gold price or the iron price... I mean, shop or PvE), you'll want to buy ONE item from the Hero Equipment tab, and LOTS of items -- enough for all your army -- from any combination of the two tabs.

Thanks for the added clarity :)
I didn't know Hero equipment could be used by units... going shopping!

Yes,
When you look at it. It all comes down to:
It is just our Hero that is to stupid to use 2/3 of the equipment that the normal army guy can use

Lol that's hilarious.

Big Dumb Brute: Heeey, how come that stick of wood over there has a better sword than mine?
Weapons Trainer: Because, Big Dumb Brute, that Trebuchet is a lot smarter than you!
