View Full Version : Rivals list seems a little screwy

I am at level 36 and fairly strong for my number of allies (81) and only free items. However, I am starting to see odd thing in the rivals list. One refresh will be all people at close levels but only 40-60 allies...the next will be all 100+. I rarely see many around 80-85. I am also starting to get hit by folks with 20 more allies who I never attacked so I must be hitting their rivals list. Is anybody else seeing this? I didn't want to ally up, but I have the units and gear to do it...so I may have to if I am going to keep getting attacked by people with 20 more allies.

Yes I saw someone with 7 allies on my rival list (I have 50). I would not be happy if I was that guy and was attacked by someone with 50 allies

Yeah...that's pretty rough. The worst I saw was 37 when I had 78 allies...I did not have the heart to attack...plus I typically only attack or raid for my latest mission so it wold not have helped me anyway.

This is getting exponentially worse...level 42 with 109 allies and starting to get hit by people with 70-100 more. I know that they can't use them all...I think 4x level is the max...but 168 vs. 109 is still a huge disadvantage.

I'm level 39 with 48 allies. I see rivals from 28 to89 allies. I'll go check those big rivals out and they really aren't that strong. They may have 800 or 1000 more points than me but they are not very strong for 30-40 more allies. And even with their defense being more than my attack by 1k, I can still successfully raid their buildings. I don't understand the mechanics of the game. It still has a lot of hidden variables that we are not taking into consideration. No camping here! Fight til I die!

Funny I noticed the same thing...they have 160+ usable allies but only attack and defense in the 5k range...about 800 more than me also.

A number of people in the upper levels have too many allies vs the money they've invested in their units. I see people all the time with 200 allies who have 5k/5k. I don't really pay attention to allies when choosing who to attack off the list.

I attacked someone with 81 allies and only 29?? Defense. I did let them know that I was going to attack them 11 times though. Just to finish that tournament round. I wasn't getting any gold but I got over 100 honor points with only 43 exp points. A success in my eyes. And did them no harm. Just to be nice.

Think about how the rival list is structured. To make the game fair-ish the rivals list is made up of people as close to you as possible in level and allies. It's probably fair to say that most people have the maximum number of allies at each level. The reasons for this are obvious -- newcomers to the game assume that the more allies the better off you are (that was my initial assumption from reading the in-game explanation), then lots of people post "add me" notices on other people's message board, on this forum and where-ever, plus those "add-me ID trains", and the spam about adding some ID number to get free gems, etc. As a result most people would get several ally requests each day, and routinely just accept all, hence overfilling their ally list.

As a result, most people are at their maximum ally count. I am, and every single rival in my list is the same level and the same ally count. Now consider the situation for the few people at each level who, usually for reasons of strategy, are at an ally count below maximum. Say you're level 32 with 40 allies... How many exact "peers" of the same level and ally count as you will there be? Surely not enough to fill out an entire rival list. So the game uses some algorithm to fill the rival list +/- your particular stats. That means you'll see people with more allies, and fewer, and possibly lower levels.

So don't be surprised if you're keeping your ally count deliberately low and you are attacked by rivals with much higher. Of course, that doesn't mean that they will be stronger, as Red mentioned, because they might not have filled those slots with units. But if they have there's a good chance that you will get crushed. On the flip side you may see more rivals with lower ally counts as well to feast on :)

If you want a level playing field you can max out your allies so your rival list will all be identical (at least at the levels up to 30 as far as I've seen), and the only difference will be how you have structured and equipped your army.

It's probably fair to say that most people have the maximum number of allies at each level.I haven't found that to be true at all. I've been able to find plenty of opponents that closely match my level and allies.

That said, I'm at lvl 12/60 allies, and 98% of my battle list are exactly the same. The other 2% have slightly fewer allies, nobody fewer than 55. What y'all are noticing probably happens with greater frequency at higher levels.

(I'm not seeing anyone with a lower level either.)

Aren't you agreeing with him...? you're saying 98% of the people on your rivals list have max allies.

If you see this post

http://www.funzio.com/forum/showthread.php?27781-Rivals-list-post

Those with max allies see a much narrower range. I have found this to be consistently the case as I have leveled up, but expect that to change at 45+.

Please continue to post/update what you see as you level so others can benefit. Cheers.

Level 50 - 130 allies.
I see: Level 47-52. Allies: 65-250+ (This can be between 3k/D -> 11k/D - quite a wide range of people)

Yes, that's what I think he's saying. Chalk it up to low reading comprehension :)
