I reckon I've spent about £100 on this game so far. That's nothing compared to many/most of you guys but in the real world to a family man that's a reasonable amount of money. I know a lot of you guys would spend that on an event without even thinking about it (no idea what you guys do for jobs you must all be CEOs :) )

I could spend more, I probably will spend more, but it got me to thinking about what kind of investment this really is. Without an actual physical product to speak of what happens if Funzio go bust? The game goes off-line, everyone loses a lot of invested cash. What happens if their system is hacked?

I work in the games industry in the UK and our weekly industry magazine MCV is full of reports every week about online companies turning off servers after a year or two when demand for an online game has dwindled.

I don't know how long you guys are planning to play this game, I've been playing for 3 months now and I'm really really enjoying it. In fact during events it takes over my life. However everything has a life span, eventually I may end up getting bored. Believe it or not you guys might end up getting bored. That's a lot of invested money that's gone to waste.

Will Funzio just keep releasing new units and map areas?

What exactly is the end game?

They are pretty good at keeping things fresh right now. Still new content to come, just released more units, always releasing new maps.

Jeez, and I thought this was gonna be an epic post on STRATEGIES for the end game, like the oint where one reaches 100 levels or something. :-/

Funzio's not gonna turn off the servers anytime soon. There are many of these type games tht last years and years as well. Funzio being a top grosser in the app store now, and recently bought out looks to be in the correct trajectory-up!

If you guys want to be depressed about wasted money, just think of all the money you spent buying snickers and girl scout cookies so far. :p

When I buy gold it is for entertainment purposes and figure I'll get a few months enjoyment from it. Investments should be made in 401k or 529 plans :)

I think we'll see them stop updating content and let the game sit as is for a while before that will happen. As of now, the game is still relatively young for these types of games and continues to see content expansion and active events. That tells me It's not likely to go dark any time soon.

If you're spending in the game, the best mindset to have is that you're not buying stuff, you're paying for entertainment. Like going to a movie or renting a room in a resort. While you're at the movie, your seat is yours, but when the movie ends, it's not. You only have it for a time. Is it a waste to pay to enjoy something for a temporary amount of time? Ultimately, anything you pay for in life is temporary.

Yes but those thin mints are worth it. And the money is for a good cause.

Keebler makes the same cookies that the girl scouts have and they are cheaper! And about the good cause, does the money really go there...

Or cigarettes money. I used to spend around 800 euros a year for fags. Have stopped smoking now.

Back to topic. I think warfiend nail it with his post. You have to treat it as an entertainment. If you want to invest, buy funzio's share.

ha ha sorry guys, was just having a moment earlier. Didn't mean to put a downer on anyone :) My most expensive unit was the LRB specialist at 390 gold, that's about £21 I worked out. My kids bought it for me as an early father's day pressie. That's love :)

Warfiend, that's deep man, true 'n' all. That's a great way to view it.

Aidan are you English? You talk about football, referees and fags and yet you spend Euros, are you an ex pat in the sun somewhere?

Snickers? They'll always be Marathons in my book. Don't start me on Opal Fruits.......

You know what im not gonna lie, as much as I enjoy MW it is starting to get really boring, everything takes a while to do and I'm at the point now ware if I don't get gold it's not much I can do. It won't be long from now when a new compeny comes out with a better iOS game then MW... You guys all heard the saying " all good things must come to a end ".....

The game was released last November I believe? So I'd be happy with another year/year and a half of this game, but of course would hope for the longest life span possible. As far as end game goes, I guess obtaining all level 10 buildings and having the highest possible atk/def stats could be a couple factors. But I'm sure end game goals are subject to opinion. The cement factory for example takes a little over 3 weeks to fully upgrade. So I hope MW lasts longer than another year to obtain a bunch of level 10 boost buildings :)

But Snickers are amazing! I'd rather have a hundred odd snickers than 1000 gold :D

Well that' is a good question Hivesy. I've been playing for 5 months and started before the game was in wide release outside of Canada. I think the oldest non dev players also started at the same time give or take a day or two.

I think the events keep things interesting but once you reach the highest levels there are not a lot of things you can do. I also have not spent money on gold units but I will confess to spending $40 during the last event because I wanted to make sure I got that 10 item. This will be the first time I have spent anything on the game as I was given some gold a while back when I had a major problem with my account. Thanks Funzio for the great customer service btw!

Anyhow back on topic, the problem is after you hit the top of the game there isn't a lot to do other than avoid being picked clean if you don't have a substantial army with strong defenses. Basically a couple of goals, attack players multiple times who are at or over a certain level or attack and defeat x number of players who have 499 or more allies. So if you are weak and have a lot of allies you are monumentally screwed. If you are weak and have bought a lot of money buildings you are going to be raided non stop by a lot of more powerful players. Yes that is the nature of the game but because everyone winds up in the same areas at the same time it gets kind of stale or frustrating really fast. I think why a lot of bases are now empty as players realize the futility at this point and quit.

The events do make things a bit more interesting but the flip side is again if you didn't have a good strategy leading up to the top levels of the game you are going to be looted of any boxes you have before you can open them. There are some strategies you can employ to get around this problem but this means buying gold, not keeping unopened boxes in reserve, learning how to hunt for a box once your timer is up or keeping enough energy in reserve so that you can hit known good targets in the maps to get a box. Then open that box immediately with gold.

There are a lot of ways to look at spending money in the game, for many it's just an entertainment expense much like going to the movies or pub for brews. I looked at it from the standpoint that servers cost money so I eventually caved in and sent a 'donation'.

There is always a possibility that a company can go boom, and they were just bought out.....

I used to play a PC flash game called Evony. It had multiple servers with a user capacity on each server. Alliances were very important - and it was possible for alliances and individuals to target each other. Eventually people would get bored and leave. One thing they did to keep interest up, was combine servers. Enemies would become friends overnight and team up against the lousy SOB's from the new server. That sort of thing can last forever.

I eventually burned out somewhere in 2010 and turned my account over to my alliance. For over a year, I'd get email notifications that someone had just added money to my account. Someone probably spent $300 on it after I left. It sort of felt good to know that someone else was putting all my hard work to good use.

Well said! I agree. You have to look at the game as just that: a game. We've spent millions on Playstations, Xboxes, Nintendo, and I think what satisfied those purchases is getting the actual unit in a store, and the game CDs. Because those were tangible, we thought we were getting something, and we were. And we are now. It's just not as tangible as past forms of digital entertainment. But, at the end of the day it was, and is, all still entertainment.

I love the game, but have wondered the same thing: when will it end. But, I wasn't thinking in terms of Funzio shutting down or going out of business. I was thinking more for myself. When will I be done? Could I realistically play this game for years? Even one full year?

I would be curious to see how much the developers expand the game, instead of creating more and more new games. I play Kingdom Age, but right now I'm enjoying MW much more.

What?!?! That is my favorite candy bar of ALL TIME. It's funny, because I'm not a caramel fan either. But I don't taste the carmel as much as the nougat and peanuts.

I had like 4 mini ones today. Love, love, love it. :o

I actually like both, but my favorite EU country is Ireland "salanche!" ooh or Munchen.

Snuff is moist tobacco that you put between your cheek and gums. Effect is not like weed (from what I hear), but it will knock you on your arse the first few times.

I just bought a snickers bar for the first time in a long time! I'm saving it for lunch tomorrow.

Seriously - 100quid..I'm not sure if thats a big deal. I mean you buy PS/console games for 50-100 bucks each easy right? You probably play them once or twice. DVDs..probably just watch them once or twice.

You go to vegas or AC and you can blow a couple of grand for a day or two of gambling. I mean the real cost is actual gonna be the TIME you blow on playing these damn funzio games. The way I see it is that if you buy gold to save time, you may actually be up on the whole trade :)

Also, if the game makes money - someone will always buy and run the franchise. If the price is cheap we can form a private equity consortium with forum members :)

I'm here to have fun :). I don't smoke or drink - so this IS my entertainment & my addiction.

As far as "investing" - if that's what you want - pm me - I've got an investment that pays 1.4% a day that lets you triple your money in 90 days :). At 180 days - I'll be drawing $4,000 a month off an initial $2k investment :). And yes - its legal :)
