Announcement section is a bad idea

It lacks visibility and assumes that people would manually check-in for news.
You can already see people reposting stuff.
Announcement should be a different colored sticky thread placed across all relevant sections.
For example if it's related to iOS then it's visible in both INVITE and GENERAL sections of the iOS sub forum.

Agreed. The announcements section is a place I just do not venture. The infrequency of posts there mean it's not worth checking.

my memory isn't very good so i never remember to look at the Announcement section. so it is useless to me. i only really look in the General section.

You could just look to see if there's a new post (since the icon changes color) and click there if so.
