View Full Version : Your Favourite Car?

Bored with talking about Cime City.

Was chatting to AppleMacGuy about cars earlier, so thought I'd start a Car thread.

What is your current favourite car and why?

Don't just name a car, sell it to us. Why is it your favourite?

Mine is the Maserati Granturismo. Why? Well for starters you can buy a 2008 model for about £40k (this is a £110k car when new) - buying one at that age/price means most of the depreciation is gone. It's also a future classic, a forever car that you can keep for a long long time.

It's a prestige Italian marque with genuine pedigree. It's got a Ferrari engine (Tipo F136) as used in the Ferrari F430 and the 458. It has class - where a Ferrari is showy and blingy, the Maserati just oozes understated class.

Most of all it is a genuinely beautiful car, that will still look stunning 20 years from now...

That is a nice car...

I personally enjoy the Audi R8. They go for about $100000USD?

I wish Audi hadn't killed the Diesel R8 project though (._.)

British Top Gear or US Top Gear? They've started airing the US version here on cable.

Re American cars, I like the Challenger SRT8.

I think that was the Q, the Quattroporte. I agree, I'd love any Maserati.

And +1 for SK on the Audi. My next SUV will be the Q7 and if I rob a bank for real, the A8, but I'd settle for an A5 or A6. :D

Santa, I wanna adopt you! ;) Yeah, some Fiats are way cool, especially the new 500. I'm an Alfa guy myself, especially the classics. But most anything Italian will do for me, hence my desire for a Maserati. I even ride a Ducati. :D

My dad got the new Forza game a couple weeks ago. It's sickkkkkk! He let me play it and I drove an Alfa Romeo... :)

I actually suck at driving. I just hold the accelerator down and end up oversteering on every turn. I crash into everything... :/

Forza 4 is beast! We actually have 2 copies of it, and I even bought the steering wheel that goes with it. Makes it even better. You'll get the hang of the controller soon, then it gets way more fun. The cool thing is the vehicle dynamics are very accurate.

He sounds like a good dude, even if he can't appreciate Italian cars. I like all cars, I had a 2010 Camaro SS until recently. I could have 100 cars and not be happy. :) My cousin has about 30, to include a Lamborghini and several Alfas and Fiats. Even has an original Fiat 600 Abarth.

Have considered buying a kit for my next project. Had an 89 5.0 that I had done major work on back in college that got T-boned by an out of control telephone pole, I sold it to a guy that was going to use the motor and trans for a kit.

I thought Cobras were British? In fact I'm sure AC were a British company... could be wrong.

Edit/

Looks like they got took over by a US company later on according to wikipedia

Originally British, car was based on an AC Ace, which did have a Bristol straight 6 engine.

Carrol Shelby took it, gave it the Cobra name, put a yank Ford V8 in it, and made it a beast.

I lusted after a Nissan GT-R34 for years and finally was able to afford one when the prices came down to the right level. I bought mine 3 years ago (larger image of my Avatar):

http://www.toolbox.uk.com/images/cars/gtr34/gtr34-1.jpg

What's great about this car? Everything! Looks awesome, drives awesome and handles awesome! Any serious petrolheaed always acknolwedges the GT-R pedigree. IMO, for price/performance the GT-R has no equal. And it can match virtually anything on the roads - even cars that are 4 or 5 times the price. Raced them all...

Plus, on the UK roads...well your far more likely to see a Lambo or Ferrari than one of these as they're rare as rare can be. Mine is one of only 80 official UK cars that were imported by Nissan, specifically number 80 of 80. Given that a few have bitten the dust or gone abroad I'd hazard that there are less than 60 left now. Of course there are a few imported ones also, but none of them have leather interiors which was reserved only for the UK models :p

Yeah, the MY2012 model makes me drool...but the price has crept up again. I think the first of the new GTRs were at least 10 grand cheaper...still, totally worth the moolah for sure.

I know ricer cars pwn most car in terms of performance but to me any high end merc or audi (for day to day driving) will always look classier than any ricer car.
My personal fave would be the 350AMG, I used to drive the 320 and would love to have a fully specced 350
if money was no object then 458 spyder would be my choice

My fave is my 2004 Chevy Z71 truck. Why? Because it's mine and it's paid for. End of story. :)

But seriously, all good choices above. The GT-R is sick, wish we could get it here other than Gray Market import. Most AMGs are great. Audi is the top manufacturer, at the moment, across the entire model line. And like Top Gear says, you're not a "petrolhead" until you've owned an Alfa Romeo. :)
