View Full Version : Desalinisation Plant - where to expand?

thedarkprince
04-14-2012, 12:05 AM
I've searched the forum and can't find an answer to this but where do I need to expand in order to build a desalinisation plant? Is it like the shipyard and dry docks i.e. on the coastline or is it out to sea?

Have mine all in the water. So land isn't a good idea. Just all water.

I'm still to low of a level to unlock but i DO KNOW that if the pic shows water underneath the building, it is water. if it shows part land part water, its both.

hope this helps

Thanks for the replies.

Dreno33 - can't really remember what the shipyard and dry docks looked like but that does make perfect sense.

It is just like the Oil Rig - has to be completely over water.

Dreno, buddy, pal - I know you want to help, but in questions where you can't possibly know the real answer because of your low level and lack of game experience, let us old farts answer :) It makes you look like a Flan Gremlin - pooping on the post just to post :) Love ya pal - but this is where the frowns come in for people that might already have a bitter taste in their mouth from other posters who constantly give advice beyond their experience that has to be corrected or retracted later - which just leads to overall confusion. You'll get there soon - and us old farts will be hanging on life support up in the high 100's - popping into the forums less and less.

Still love your spirit to help people though :)

The picture is what is confusing people because it looks like it would be all sea, but logic would tell you that a Salt Water plant might be partly on land. I wasn't even sure if I could place it until I actually bought one :)

McDoc... i love being right ;]

BTW - that picture you are showing is not the Desalination Plant - that's the Dry Docks that unlock specific Sea Units - the Desalination Plant is a money building - your first clue should be that the top of your picture says:"Unit Buildings". Sorry bro - now I'm just being a grumpy old fart & a Smart Azz.

Like I said, love your spirit of helping others - "the force is strong with this one" - :)

Has anyone upgraded them yet if so what's the payouts so far? Want to know if it's worth the expansion cost

I have one at level 3.... Pays 73,500 every 12hrs... Relatively cheap and quick to upgrade. I think they are well worth the expansion cost, and I paid 9m for the first plot and 9.5m for the second!

I think this might me an extra useful info to you. 1 expansion size is 14x14. Naval research center is 12x12, oil rigs are 12x12 each, and desalinization plants are 10x10 each. So with only 4 consecutive straight water expansions, you can fit all 5 buildings in perfectly. Calculations: 14x4(4 expansions)=56. 12x1(1 naval research center)+12X2(2 oil rigs)+10x2(2 desalinization plants)=56. Hope this helps :)

This will really help some of the noobs who haven't got to the oil rig stage yet but looks like I need an expansion for each of the plants

Sorry mate, I'm not one to keep a record, and when you get past 60 (!!!!!) it's hard to remember...now watch me get back OT... I think initial build was just 2 hours, then 6 and 10. Cost wise, I think L3 was about 350K but with the alzheimers, can't be sure... At my age, BTW, I get a kick out of the esthetics of things, so I'm beyond trying to squeeze stuff into small spaces (cue OT for you!), so I have 7 water plots for all my water buildings

I have both of mine and both are at level 3. I agree they are a good investment and a quick build. I had to expand my water unit space, but was smart enough to figure out that I could squeeze in the naval research, the two oil rigs and the two desanilation plants into 5 lots. I'm now in the $8million per expansion level so for the moment i'd rather spend that money on upgrades and buying stronger units.

Interesting that the dry docks now require lvl 50. I am only lvl 41 and have had one for months, since well before lvl 20. They must have changed things.Yeah the only constant is change. It depends on when one started the game. For us old farts that have access to everything already it is hard to answer the required level as we already have it and that might have changed. To be sure us older seniors would have to look at the data file posted by the likes of Digitalwalker.
If you see lower level people who have buildings but aren't at the required level yet, it doesn't necessarily make them hackers or cheaters either. Most likely they are old fart campers who had them before the devs changed things.

As for payouts it is easy to figure out as all money building payouts go by a formula. The costs are a different story.

Bronson they are good IMO. I have 2 myself and like they say the costs and time are low.

Ach Scheiße, just realised that the post giving the info on all the water sizes messes up my plans completely, I'd thought oil rigs were 10x10 and had figured out a good way of fitting them in with adequete land based defense. Way to rain on my parade!

Before people start hitting me up more, the example formula is this for what EnjoyLife posted. It is in most spreadsheets people have genreated and shared. If you have the base payout the multipliers for each level money builiding are the same. A maxed building is 30 times the base payout

Desalination Plant Payouts:
1 $21,000 = base
2 $42,000 =base*2
3 $73,500 =base*3.5
4 $115,500 =base*5.5
5 $168,000 =base*8
6 $231,000 =base*11
7 $304,500 =base*14.5
8 $388,500 =base*18.5
9 $483,000 =base*23
10 $630,000 =base*30

Darkprince, I'm calling you out right now to ask of your honesty for something that Chiefer has brought to my attention and just want to clear things up. Was I rude in any way, shape, or form on how I answered your question in this thread?

No not at all, I got what you meant so appreciated the feedback. The upgrade has about 12 hours left so I'll know for sure tomorrow morning. Then I may hunt you down...

andrewdennis81
07-05-2012, 02:41 PM
output = (0.25*o)x^2+(0.25*o)x+(0.5*o)
x = the level of the upgrade
o= the original output of the building

EG: Desalination Plant, Level 3
x=3
o=$21,000

Output= (5250)3^2+(5250)3+10500
= $73,500

- I've never tried to calculate the time to upgrade, or the price of the upgrade as a function of the level of an upgrade.

Enjoy

Does the cost to build the final upgrade also cost a lot more than normal? If not that's a great incentive to focus even on the smaller cheap ones FTP level 10 first before the next and so on!!!

For a lot of you, this game fulfills a well-known psychological need. A reward sensor engrained in your head. But the only thing this game is about is how much money you're willing to spend. Community, "help," whatever, you'll realize what I'm saying sooner or later; it's inevitable. Hence, my help, in a cynical type of way...lol.

Actually, I come here occasionally to see what I'm talking about in-action.
