I have been looking for crazy people like myself but, am having a hard time finding them. I approached this like it was a base I had to protect from all directions. I have a fence all the way around the perimeter of my base with guard towers, a road barrier, bunkers, and turrets protecting it. Am i just wasting money on the fences or does it help with my defense?

I lose a bit of expansion space but, I think its cool and I feel safer.....

You are just wasting money, and other players can't even see them.

When I was first playing I had one side of my base with fncing and interspersed guard towers all along, but I sold all the fencing off as I'm not going for the eye candy goals.

You are wasting money and space. The only thing that helps is the defense building themselves like the turrents. Fences are decorations. The sum of all your base defense buildings is added to the sum of your X strongest defense units brought to battle to determine your raw Allinace Def stats. 5 allies per level X 4 units per ally. Boost building and nation bonses add to the unit strengths not the base defenses.

The defense buildings also help protect against raids but only if the attacked building is within its blue circle coverage. Having them on them edge looks pretty but isn't effective. You want as many buildings underneath as possilbe. Some people even hide their defenses in the building shadows so you don't see them. But even then IMO the fenses only help against raids from people close to your own stats. Meaning if a L165 player with 100K stats comes calling against your 25K stats they can walk right through whatever defenses you have. The devs won't say how the skill points work other than they do affect ALL PVP actions.

I have heard people say they are raided and have L10 EMPs. I for one am a free player and don't have those levels, but i can say that I have raided a building under covereage of 5 EMPs (2 L3, 2 L2, and 1 L1) with now trouble. To proove apoint I raided their EMPs directly too. I lost 0 units doing so. Do they help yes and no, but could be determine by your skill points but we will never know as that is a dev secret. Play around and see.

People with close stats to me have failed in some raids and won on others, so it depends on where they hit within my strongest/weakest base defense coverage. By that indication it seems to help, it is just the unknow wildcard which I suspect is the def skill point paired with level of your def buildings to determine how much of a help.

My 2 cents.

Your fences actually DO serve a purpose: you can hide money in your fences outside of yor vault and sell them later at a 50% loss when you need the money. However, the $50,000 Tall Palm tree is better for this strategy as each unit takes up a lot less space. Funzio has all decorations turned off for other players to see as a way of cutting down on crashes from I-phones, I-Pods & Older I-pads from crashing as much from trying to load up so many graphics when they come to your base for raids.

.

I personally have never had a single crash on my I-pad 2 - but I see others on other devices constantly complain about crashes. I would love to have them turn on decorations as I initially used the trees to hide the number of upgrades on my building from attackers. Now I just arrange my buildings in a way to accomplish the same thing on popular targets.

.

So - not a total waste - even though they aren't doing anything close to what you were hoping they would do :)

So, if Maverick was to travel to my base he wouldn't see the fences. Now I wished I wouldn't of asked and burst my bubble, I like the astetics though. If i lose an attack i don't lose money or units but, I'm at lvl 85 and trying to build for the future. Only took me until lvl 80 to learn this stuff, should of been on here sooner.

I get the strategy about the trees but the fences are far to cheap for that.

They need a running clock on this game so, I can see how many hours i'm spending on this game.
