The farewell message from TS made me sad. It also got me thinking. Having played the game for a couple of months, I realized that we have lost the company of several forum players. A few have formally announced their retirement, but for most, I have taken their absence from the forum as proof of retirement. Here's the list (feel free to add more names):

Thanks for your input. Certes last signed in on February 11th. I was careful to limit the list to players who hadn't checked the forum for 1 month or longer.

JJ got herself banned purposely, quit the game, and had it transferred to one of my devices under a diff. name. My housemate Eduardo and I play on that one. I have my own camper account on another other device.

Life goes on. I have been playing video games hard core since the Atari 2600. I learned a long time ago that the games are diversions to life, not life itself. Accordingly, while it is fun to spend inordinate amounts of time on a game (especially initially), this is not sustainable long term. One of three things inevitably happen to you - you get bored, it gets to a point where you need to invest (yes invest) more time than you have available to get to the next point in the game, or a better game replaces it. Those that left have their reasons. I would bet that their reasons would fall into one of the categories I just mentioned.

I personally am kind of glad they left though, as it is better for them to go than to poison my fun with their misplaced feelings of persecution from a development community that is trying to provide a free (yes it is still a free game if you want it to be) game to the masses. I would rather chat/learn/discuss strategy, analysis, or play with those that remain interested in the game.

While the departed players all added value while they were interested, as soon as they began to bite the hand that fed them the free entertainment, they lost me.

It wasn't long ago that a strategy game like this cost upwards of $50 for a Sega Genesis or SNES. Don't hate on Funzio for trying to build a viable business model.

Not meant to be harsh TS. And you in particular did not rage on ad neaseum prior to your departure, which I appreciate. I also recognize your analytical skills and logical thought process and respect your abilities.

Throughout the forum however, there have been numerous threads regarding following your departure as a protest of sorts against Funzio. I believe that your reasons for leaving were certainly valid to you, otherwise you would not have left. I respect the manner in which you left. Others who rage on against the inherent unfairness of a free game bug me.

You hate the game so much, leave. Don't tell me you're going to leave and how unfair the world is. You didn't have to pay $50 for a cartridge that sucked

This is why I've returned (temporarily). My goal was not to be associated with trying to drag down the forum as I left. I thought I'd avoid toxicity posting a mostly emotionless farewell with a positive conclusion. @TS. Understood. Certainly my comments were not directed at you, and really not even directed at players that have chosen to move on. More towards those that remain and complain about a company who has provided them with a free game.

The problem with email, message boards, etc., is that there is no tone. Sometimes the text of the note takes on reader's state of mind, regardless of the writer's intended tone.

Anyhow, it was a pleasure reading your work. I would be curious to know what kind of profession an analytical mind like that pursues. All the best in the future.

Probably has something to do with all the post about him, he is getting associated with an anti-funzio vibe, which as he has said himself is not the case. He went out very "nicely" IMO. But i think they have had enough, especially after he left the game but came back on the forum. Maybe too many "unbalanced comments".
