Are they worth it? From what I've heard, they barely contribute at all. If this is true, then why build defense buildings? I have 6 guard towers and a bunch of level 1 turrets, I feel like selling them is the right thing to do. I have abOve average stats for my level. Please help.

Defense buildings are basically worth face value at level 1 and decay quadratically relative to their rated defense as their levels rise. So there's nothing wrong with a field of low level turrets, etc.

so we shouldn't upgrade defense buildings? why would they make their value go down??? whats the highest level we should up grade to?

Each defence building also attracts every other defence building in crime city with a force proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the distance between them.

I could yes this, there are two players at my level, one called 'Dawg' another called 'Big Dawg', I can check the atk/def respectively against these two.

So should I have any defense buildings? If I have above average attack/defense stats and I need space to build my 2nd Brownstone, is it okay to scrap some level 4 towers? I have a bunch of level 1 turrets, but I can put those in those random 2x2 spaces that always seem to pop up. Sell or not to sell?

Its a personal choice, I would not sell em myself. I would just expand or sell a couple crap buildings. Ive already ditched the souvenir shop, shoe store and clothing store to make room. Getting ready to ditch the sports bar, diner and arcade soon.

Their value goes down proportionally to rated defense. The majority of upgraded defense is fictitious and gives the player a false sense of security. The most extreme examples are the hoods full of upgraded Guard Towers or Muai Thai centers, whose defense score may be padded by 100%.

Hah, hah...one of those will be me then lol, although not quite 100%, more like 20% or so! :cool: Still, I think defence buildings are good for instilling some degree of doubt in some (dumber) rivals...and anyway having built all the worthwhile money buiildings (bar the casinos in progress) I think I suffer from 'building withdrawal syndrome' heh heh! :p

I personally dont have a single defense building, and I have every money building for my level, 100, and I manage just fine. At a certain point, you start making so much, that it doesnt even matter if people rob you or not.

The number crunchers have said stop at 3, I personally stopped at 5. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I deleted 8 lvl 6 Guard Towers and 1 lvl 7 Abandon Building and saw no additional losses from attackers and robbers as a result. I just this week added 8 lvl 1 Gattling Turrets because it felt weird having a full upgrade queue while not building anything. They'll probably never make it to lvl 2 though.

I'm definitely a believer in the theory of decreasing gains as you level defense buildings. Like TS and others, I have robbed and attacked players and wittnessed dramatic differences in their posted and actual defense. The numbers on the fight results in addition to the fight outcome support this.

I have never doubted TS's number crunching ability and I wouldnt have gone to 5 on my towers had i read that thread first. I still cant bring myself to delete them.........yet.

I've set myself a goofy goal of having at least one of each type of building in my hood. I don't think I'm ready to get rid of 49 gatling turrets just yet.

Mine isn't that bad, but was at one point. My defense buildings account for a little over 20k of my mafia defense. I'm definitely keeping my lips zipped on this topic, as we all know what happened last time I didn't. Trying to avoid the ban hammer.

According to Peacock's analysis you get only 2x mafia defense from defense buildings against robberies, which would make them of similar value.

I looked at Peacock's analysis (again), but I don't understand the "2x mafia defense." Can you explain it further?

The important conclusion for me was that I get the full defense value of a level 1 building against rob attempts.

Am i incorrect on that latter point?

It's confusing since I explained from the standpoint of attacks. It's more convenient to assume full (adjusted) defense for robberies and half for attacks.

I wouldn't build any defense buildings unless you feel you desperate for more defense, or you are basically "done" constructing new money buildings.

50 Level 2 Muay Thai Centers are outstanding. They build and upgrade quickly relative to the stat gain, and have a 4x4 footprint, so they don't eat up much space.

50 Level 1 Machine guns and 50 Level 1 Gatling guns are a distant second and third. You can boost them to level 2, at a cost of valuable upgrade time.

As a whole, upgrading past Level 2 is substantially diminishing returns in terms of upgrade time. Don't upgrade any of the above to Level 3 until you've upgrade everything to Level 2.

After that, you can start building Level 1 Missile Turrets, just to be constructing something, but don't ever upgrade them.
