What happens to these boxes when time is up?

I have about 70 lockboxes & I doubt I'll open even half of them, but what I was wondering is what happens to them when time is up? Can we open them at that time, or will they just go poof?

@JimmyShines, who is a beta tester, says the boxes will go away after the event ends.

That was the outcome for the beta, it might be the same here or might not be, it all depends on what Funzio wants to do. We shall all see soon.
