Crates seem to be a lucky dip of sorts with a chance to get high value gold items... looks like an idea from the marketing department, nothing game changing.

The lockbox thing I don't get at all. It says rob & attack rivals to get lockboxes to get diamonds to get items... but the event lasts for 7 days? If you thought the update notes were clear as mud, the in game explanation is crystal clear!!!!

I wrote Funzio about this while testing the beta and got a developer response said they are aware that 2.0.2 players would have an advantage, unless they create a separate, better drop rate for 2.2 players.

No it tells you what the possible items you can "win" if you buy a crate, I think they are all pre existing gold items. There are two crates one is 15g one is 45g I think.

From the lockbox thing all I can gather is you get lockboxes by attacking, robbing or jobs. Then to open the lockbox you need a lock pick. There are 3 kits, low chance, medium chance and 100% chance of opening the lockbox (this makes me assume that the lock pick kit is a gold item). Then when you open the lockbox you MIGHT get a diamond. A certain amount of diamonds will get you high power items. 10 diamonds get you a Diamond Sig Gun 257/276

I just scored a lockbox from a job, the low chance lock pick kit to open is free, medium chance $12k and 100% chance of opening is 10g.

LOL, and you can only attempt to open a lockbox only once per hour, BUTTT you can reset this timer with 10g.. this is just more useless crap to sell gold and make money. Can't blame them really, the game is getting stale.

3 options for opening lockbox. Low(free), Medium($13000), High 100%(10 gold bars)

Can only attempt to open 1 lockbox an hour. If you fail you still keep the lockbox, you just cant try to open it again for 1 hour.

My Medium try failed and I got a better luck next time message. Assuming you automatically get a diamond if it suceeds.

Medium chance is $100 x level. The 5 gold to reset the time is quite reasonable I think, since you can try 3 boxes with cash for 10 gold/hour, vs. guaranteed one opening.

The crate items are all new, but are very good against similarly priced gold items. For example common loot 25/24 Vengance Pistol is nearly as good as the now current 26/19 Gore Pistol for 40G.

This does enhance game playability, I purchased a crate for a common item and Used 10 gold to open the lockbox 1 diamond. So 100 gold for Diamond Sig is very very reasonable i would think. BTW i had 4 lockboxes drop from 7 attempts at Empire Station going for DD's, not bad at all...

OK, there are now 2 sets of data files, one for 2.0.2 and one 2.2. The 2.2 has higher drop rates defined, but it's the drop rate on completion of the job, vs. the drop rate being per click.

Thats true AMG... but I did get probably 400 of them on Boardwalk/Junkyard. It is not the worst farm job... unlike pretty much every other one of the new good drops.

Ok, I see. It looks like they restored some of the halved >30% rates from ~2 updates ago. So it's basically times two divided by five with the higher level areas. Basically, an even worse deal now, significantly so.

A few things to add regarding the lockboxes:

- For right now, jobs will be the best way to obtain them.

From Funzio:


Lockboxes are only available in PvP if the user you're attack has a lockbox and has not opened it. Then you have a small chance of "stealing" it from them.

- The drop rate for lockbox drops (from jobs) is proportional to the energy cost of the job.

- Once you unlock 10 diamonds you won't get any more. But you can still unlock boxes for the other loot.

Some of the other items are pretty good. To give you some idea of the rewards (and rates), from 36 boxes I was able to to find:

(10) Diamonds
(3) $2,500 cash
(5) Punker Jackets
(6) $125,000 cash
(2) $25,000 cash
(4) ARX160
(1) Stone Hammer
(2) FBI SWAT Van
(3) 500 RP

For the most part I used the Expert Kit.

2) In iTunes delete the new version of CC 2.2

3) Drag the recovered version of CC 2.0.2 into the iTunes window

4) Re-synch your iPhone

I've just completed my reversion and re-launched...it all looks OK. Back to farming M4A1s :D

I think it's possible. I only used gold to get the 10th diamond, all the others I got within 4 days using just the medium unlock. On qualifier though is that they seemed to be tweaking rates for balance the whole time.

Both - it is a rate proportional to energy cost for jobs (PvE) & it is a fixed rate for robs & fights (PvP). But the player has to have a lockbox to "steal" in PvP for any possibility of success.

Well you are SOL at that point. But if you downloaded the new version via your phone, and didn't update iTunes, iTunes would still have the old version. You delete the new version before you sync, then restore the old version with iTunes.

I just don't see where you're getting that info. The first line of the Lockbox event guide says the following:

FYI - loot & lockbox drops are not mutually exclusive, you can get both from the same attempt.

I can confirm that is true because on Auto row I hit the fancy car dealership and got the shiv without bag and the lockbox in the bag managed to open the box on a free the second time round so not bad success of 1:2 chance for the free pick

I have been tracking my loot drops since 1/10. I log my dropped php items daily and calculate the drop ratio. It has pretty much ranged from 1 in 11.5 to 1 in 10.75 so there is very little variance as far as I can tell. Granted with 2.2 who knows?...

See my post #57 for one way to do it. As Babytway points it, it depends how you've upgraded. My solution assumes that you updated via iTunes. If you updated direct to the device and have not syched back to iTunes yet then you can delete 2.2 from the device and re-synch the 2.0.2 from iTunes.

FYI for owners of iPad and iPhone, you can transfer from iPhone to iPad for farming of M4A1's without losing any new items you may have won from the crates or Lock Boxes. I guess my farming is done on the iPad although i could have a healthy amount of weapons from the crates which may see me out...I'll know more in a day or 2 :)

i think the only sure thing is gold- 100%. unclear what the odds of drops for free and cash options are. they have vague descriptors- "low" and "fair"

The odds get worse as you near 10, so the first 3 will happen to most players in the first 24hrs, the next 4 will take about 2-3 more days and the last 3.... lots of fun. This is all using the med kit (i.e. cc cash), no gold.

The items that can come out of a box are also based on level, so hard to tell now exactly what all of those are.

But, a box can drop the following possible "things" when opened

1. CC Cash, 25k or 125k
2. Respect coins 500
3. An item (gun, armor mele or car) stats for these items suck (atleast for me they suck)
4. 1 Diamond

@Pro - Until a lot of people are on 2.2 with Crates in tow, blowing stam will not necesarily get you anything as you must take one from them.

Burning energy will get you crates for sure over time. Probably time to park it in 2.2 until you get your sig.

Well, considering you can potentially get 168 chances to open a lockbox during the course of the event without burning gold, it's understandable they do not have a 100% chance of making you happy. If you are super active, you can get your first 5-9 diamonds within the first day, which many of of have done. Let's see how days 2-7 play out before saying it's junk.

And everybody copies everybody in these kinds of games. There's about 10,000 gangster and other similarly themed clones on the iTMS and Facebook. They copy each other because some people like the thrill of gambling, for me it paid off hugely at my low level. It was better when the price was cheap though.
