I continue to purchase more units but can get my attack or defense any higher.

Do I have to get more skill and attack points?
Do I have to recruit more allies?

Any suggestions. I have read the strategies. Have 100 plus medics and engineers. I try to keep all the clocks running: expanding, building, upgrading buildings, and expanding my vault. How do I raise those numbers when I purchase units.

U will boost ur stats by buying units have higher stats than ur current units which allowed to bring to battles

U current average units stats are attack 6.5, defence 8.3 so if you buy units have higher stats than this average number, u will surely see ur stats boosted.

You can use 5 x level so in you case 295 allies to bring your max of 1180 units into battle.
