Mechanics of the Rivals List?

I've read that previously the rival list matching was based on # of mafia.

Having played for a few weeks so far my experience has been that you see players + or - 3 or so levels of your own in your rivals list.

I have recently read that once you hit level 90 that you are no longer matched up with rivals within such a small tolerance and rather you will show up as a rival for all level 90+ players. Is that true (or still the case)? If so that might make me want to build up defenses and economy a bit before crossing that level 90 threshold.

There have been changes made to the rivals list with in the last couple of months.

It used to be that you could control your rivals list by controlling the number of Mafia members you had. Eg. Drop to 400 mafia. I dont know how it works now at lower levels... This may still work. When i was below level 100 I used this method quite effectively. However when I hit level 100 I was suddenly surrounded by players with 500 Mafia and then was obviously weak in comparison.

I am level 149.

My rivals list show people from 124 - 200. All mostly 500 Mafia.

Essentially you hit the big time when you hit level 120. You go from being a big fish in a little pond to a little fish in a big pond very quickly!

I think whne you hit 120, up to 140 can see you. then when you hit 140 up to 200 can see you.

Well, I'm at level 87 right now so I was a bit concerned if graduation into the big pond happened at 90, but if it's not until 120 I think I can hold my own until then and have a good enough economy, equips & defenses by then.

I am currently level 121 and can see from levels 102 up to 130... It looks like they have moved the HL bar again... From levels 1 - 95 or so you are kept within a level or two... It then appears that a middle tier has formed allowing you to see 10 levels or so in any direction and then the upper tier free for all.

Is their anyone a level or two higher then myself who knows where the HL tier now starts?

What's the highest level player that has hit you recently?

For what it's worth:

I am level 136 and the highest person that has hit me lately was 166. I don't get random hits very often by people that aren't retaliating though so not really sure if that's a cap. I see 115-200 on my rivals list, however I only have 279 mafia so this might not be the same for most.

My 2 cents: I am at level 125 and in my rival list I see lvl 100 - 135. Today I got attacked by my first lvl 200 player. 95% of my rival list are players below my level. Meeting my 125 Hardcore Goal I had to refresh at least 3 times to find a player above or higher as my level.

This, especially when you consider many of them are sub-500 mob, so you can't double up on goals that way.

Duly noted. I think I'm on track so far. I have an attack of 12.5k, defense of 16k and hourly income of 33k. But still looking to beef up before hitting the big time. Mostly been investing in economy and farming M4's but I may camp for a bit when I get closer if I start to see overpowered rivals.

What's the highest level player that has hit you recently?

Levels 127, 128, 129, 143, & 148

Wish I could get more HLs on my rival list; they have all the good buildings to rob.

Don’t get confused between who you can see and who can see you.
Generally most of the people you see are lower level than yourself which holds true for people seeing you. So if you are L125 and seeing L100 – 130 that doesn’t mean people seeing you are L100 – 130 but more likely L 120 – 150.

Also there are random spikes even at L90 there will be times when you can see L200’s or they can see you but it’s not till about 135 (currently remember this is a moving bar as people level) that you can regularly see each other
