Does mafia member's level count?

Let's say I con my wife into downloading the game just so I can add her to my mob. There she is on my list, level 2. Other than that, I have systematically sought out higher level players to be in my mob, thinking that will make my mob stronger. Is that really the case, or does 1 mob = 1 mob, regardless of the player's level?

Player level does not matter, each mob member can hold five pieces of equipment regardless of level

When completing tasks you are sometimes rewarded with a henchman who is ( I think ) a mob member you can't visit, it is just a +1 for your mob numbers
