Allies

Bit of a random question; does it make any difference at all what level your allies are? Also, has anyone tried allying themselves with an inordinately large number of people as a line of defense against attacks simply by virtue of the fact that the majority of them are your ally?

and what's w/ the grunt?

No. I've read that some ally themselves with monsters so that the monster doesn't attack them. Grunt is an NPC ally.
