Att/def weapons calculations

Am new to this forum and game. If I want to improve both my attack and defense ratings, should I get two different weapons? For instance, steel garrotes improve attack by 10, but their def values are low at only 5. If one buys both garrotes and tasers (def 11), will my mafia use garrotes when I'm attacking and then tasers when I'm defending?

Would be nice to buy katanas for their high att/def values but not many people can afford 700k for them. Plus seems like a waste if your mafia only defaults to the highest att or def value depending on the situation.

yes, combining weapons provides cost effective method of equipping your mafia. steel garrote + taser combo gives 10/11... close to katana's att/def stat but much cheaper.
