if so what is the reward, and does upgrading/building defense buildings help raise your numbers to achieve this score? thanks.

I have, and I think you only get some respect for it. It's mostly a mission for your own good, that you'll reach sooner or later anyways.

I did it recently I think I got 220 respect and a henchmen.
