This'll be a fun thread. Whenever you watch a movie simply come to this thread and rate it on whatever scale you like. Whether it's out of 5 stars, 10 stars, out of 100, or just a percentage go ahead and rate.

I will begin.

Frankenstein (Boris Karloff, 1931) - 9/10

Karloff's performance in the non-speaking role of the monster is simply astonishing, even 84 years on. I'm deducting a point simply because nothing is perfect, and there are a few glaring plot holes! Also Dr. F's name, Victor in the book, has been changed to Henry, and his best friend's name, Henry in the book, has been changed to Victor! Why???

Call Northside 777 (James Stewart, 1948)

A documentary style film noir about the true story of a Chicago Times journalist who succeeds in getting a man wrongly convicted of killing a cop released from prison. Stewart's performance is, as might be expected, the best thing about this film which although solid, perhaps never really takes flight.

The Penalty (dir: Wallace Worsley, 1920)

The breakthrough film for Lon Chaney, in which he played a double amputee, Blizzard, who has become the crime lord of San Francisco. In those days there was no blue screens or cgi, so the actor's lower legs were literally strapped up tight against his body. The pain and discomfort must have been enormous.

http://150597036.r.cdn77.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/chaneypenalty1.jpg

The plot is concerned with Blizzard's attempt to get revenge on the doctor whose blunder when newly qualified let to the unnecessary amputations. It's a shame the Hollywood happy ending thing led to the end being a bit of a cop out. The doctor, instead of taking the legs of his own assistant (and the fiancé of his daughter), and grafting them onto Blizzard's stumps, operates on a contusion at the base of Blizzard's skull which had been pressing on his brain since childhood. Relieving the pressure turns him from evil into good straight after waking up.

So, for Chaney's remarkable performance, 10/10; for the plot 7/10 as the end lets it down badly.

There's some wonderfully unintentional comic moments, such as when in the last episode Flash disposes of a bomb placed in their rocket ship by the simple expedient of opening the door whilst in flight (!), or when Prince Barin and Doctor Zarkov go in Barin's ship to rescue Flash and his companions, upon landing Barin opens the door and places a small set of steps outside to exit the ship (when they get back on board, Zarkov is last to enter; he closes the door without retrieving the steps).

Any beast described as "sacred" is like the red shirt guys in Star Trek; it's doomed! :D

Thinking about it, I found some of the early chapters - which are in effect introducing us to the cast of characters - a little slow. It definitely improved in leaps and bounds after we reach the sky city of the Hawkmen. Oh, and I don't give fractions of points. :)

Rodan (Ishiro Honda, 1956)

The Japanese original is the one I watched earlier. The English dubbed version, released in the U.S. in 1957, had some changes - some scenes shortened or deleted, and others introduced, plus some tweaking to the storyline which, unlike other films perhaps improved this one. I'm hoping to see that later tonight. Seen on Classic Media DVD; the picture was perhaps not quite as good as might have been - whether that's down to the source or simply because they stuffed a lot of material onto one disc; two versions of the film plus a fine documentary about Toho's monster films which is over an hour long, who knows.

Edit: have now watched the dubbed version also, and yes the small changes made to bring the two Rodans together earlier in the film than in the original, and strengthen the bond between them is a definite improvement. The dubbed on narration by central character Shigeru is a bit 'Hollywood' for my taste though.

Anyway, 9/10 for both.

Bizarre Anal Rosebud Pumping and Distortion of a Slave Housewife

1/10

Normally I'm not into this kind of sh-t and it turns out that this was no exception. The opening shot of the video is of what appears to be some kind of oriental woman* (sometimes it's hard to tell, even in this case as the vaginal region is padded up for some reason) on all fours, awaiting the insertion of some kind of pump.

The man holding the pump slowly teases her* @sshole with the tip of the pump, and eventually sticks it in and immediately begins pumping. Very shortly, her @sshole becomes engorged, and I can honestly say it looked f-cking horrifying before he even removed the pump.

At 2.37 into the video, he has engorged her* asian @sshole so much that she* actually screams for a bit.

He keeps pumping.

He removes it for a moment to gaze at his handiwork.

whathaveidone.jpg

He sticks the pump back in and goes at it again for another short while, until eventually he removes it and sticks in another horrifying object, something akin to a pear of anguish.

It looked like a giant gaping mouth for f-ck sake.

I'm gagging just writing this sh-t.

RIP her* @sshole.

Crawl Or Die (dir: Oklahoma Ward, 2014)

Low budget sci-fi/horror movie. An elite team of soldiers is given the task of escorting the last fertile woman off Earth to "Earth 2". Driven underground by hostile aliens, they are forced to enter an increasingly claustrophobic tunnel network. Most of the team are picked off in short order, leaving just the "package" and the sole surviving female soldier (Nicole Alonso)

Spoiler Alerts - The bad points: the dialogue (which is thankfully minimal) is terrible. Most of the minor acting is too, if I'm honest. By the end only Alonso is left alive, which does rather defeat the whole point. To make the movie feel real, it should have been the civvie who is left alone; placing her in a Sarah Connor at the end of Terminator situation. I also didn't like that the woman they are trying to save doesn't have a name; being referred to as "the package" throughout. The effect is to dehumanise her so you don't really care that much when she dies. The alien in this movie is a complete rip-off of the one from Alien. There's also too much gratuitous flesh baring. I can take Alonso removing her jacket (although nobody else does), but when she removes her trousers to tear off hand bandages for the "package", then you have to wonder why.

The good points: at its best the claustrophobic feel is well handled, especially when the last two are laboriously hauling themselves through a very narrow dirt tunnel and the alien catches up to and drags the "package" backwards to her doom. From there it's a question of how close it will get to our heroine. Sadly the last scene before she is rescued goes on too long, meaning she's rather left up in the air dithering between one course of action and another, and then back again.

6/10

YouTube is goldmine for older films. Click one movie that's available for free and you can find a ton more in the suggestions. I've been busy saving the URLs in a notepad document so I can watch them later and I keep finding more and more films so it may be a while before I get to watch one. lol

Overall 10/10 for this one. Ming is more truly evil in this sequel than in the first, where he was basically drooling over Dale the whole time, and is only defeated after his lieutenant, appalled by the Emperor's insanity, switches sides. The extra time allowed in 15 parts rather than 13 means the supporting cast are more rounded out as characters.

Are you referring to how most of them will tell you to follow a link to another website to watch the movie? There are many that actually show the movie, but the problem is that most of the ones that do actually show the movie have ads every 10 minutes.

I recently watched 'The Intern' starring Robert De Niro. 5/10 I guess?

There wasn't really any kind of a story at all. He was an old guy going back to work as an intern after he retired because he was bored, and he worked at this hip new startup as the boss's intern, and she was so caught up in her work and new success that her husband cheated on her, but that was ok because it was her fault for being busy at work.

Then Robert De Niro just left work and went and did Tai Chi at the park. She didn't know where he was so she left work too and found him at the park and they started doing Tai Chi together.

The End.

That doesn't count as a story right?

SPECTRE I would give it probably 6.5/10.

So many little things with it, I don't know where to start. Part of it is how Daniel Craig has changed the franchise. He took it from a cartoon, a barely different than Austin Powers level of buffoonery, and added a depth and dimension to the character that we haven't seen in a while, if ever. This film regressed from that a bit.

Normally, when you watch a Bond film, you suspend disbelief, as you do with many action hero films. This one seemed to go back to earlier Bond films, perhaps as an homage, perhaps because they were out of ideas. There was a villain that was very similar to Jaws, he even went out the same way on a train. There was the obligatory tour of the evil villain's compound, shortly before evil villain tries to kill him. Blofeld, said evil villain, was a bit of a disappointment. There were the implausibles, like Bond getting drilled into the side of his head and not bleeding a drop. All in all, I enjoyed it. May even watch it again on TV some day. But I expected a little more this time. And I didn't get it.

Been a while since I was here. Too much stuff happening meant no time for movies :(

The Dark Knight Rises

No match for The Dark Knight, or Batman Begins, but certainly not as bad as some people make out. The film is essentially about Bruce Wayne, not The Batman. For me it works in that regard. There are though some problematic parts...

When Gordon escapes from Bane's lair by jumping into the water, Blake finds him miraculously fast despite there being more than one outflow.

How does Bane know where to construct his base right under where Lucius Fox keeps all the goodies he supplies to Batman, when only he and Wayne know of it.

When the football field is blown up, why does the player with the ball keep going until he reaches the endzone? Wouldn't he have turned round right after the first explosion to see what the frack was going on!

At the end, when Alfred is sitting in the Florence café, I would have preferred if he'd caught a glimpse of someone passing by in the distance who could have been Bruce Wayne rather than seeing him sitting at another table. Would have been nice to have left the question of whether Wayne survived a bit more open.

All in all, 7/10

Kingsman is very good. I think it's the 3rd best of the year so far.

I found Trainwreck to be pretty good, here is my ratingfor it: (8/10)

I thought Trainwreck certainly lived up to its name which really is a shame since I liked all the other movies that Judd Apatow has directed.

Never saw this, saw it at relatives house over the holidays, what a piece of crap. Should have known a Tom Cruise/Oliver Stone vehicle would turn out this way, but watched anyway and that is 2 hours I will never get back.

Tom Cruise has the unique ability, unlike any other employed actor out there, to make me not care one whit what happens to the lead in every movie he is in. Oliver Stone's head is in some alternate reality.

My favorite movie that i watch every so often and was just on is Dazed and Confused. 10/10 from me. But I grew up on that movie. So probably like it more than most. But also i think everyone should watch Interstate 60. From 2002. A not very well known movie. But it is very good and makes u think. Take a ride on Interstate 60. No rules. No boundaries. I give it 9.5/10.

Uma's acting skills don't much matter in Tarantino films, they are mostly a parody of B films anyway. Bad acting is part of the narrative.

It's all about the Crazy 88s and Carradine as Bill. And martial arts revenge flicks. And the soundtrack. Battle without Honor or Humility is a staple.

Still great fun, but a little below the previous two. Nice that they spent the budget on proper doors and folding stairs on the rocket ships, although it meant every ship landing and taking off was in the same location regardless of where they were on Mongo, lol. I was a little bit sad when Ming was finally destroyed. ;)
